Title: Sorry, girls!
Post by: Nickbat on 30 January 2011, 18:43:11
There's a good chance that you'll soon have to pay as much as us chaps for your car insurance. :o

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) will shortly rule on whether using a person's sex to calculate their insurance premiums breaches equality legislation.

Insurers are bracing themselves for the worst, having received legal opinion – from law firm Slaughter & May – that this outcome is a realistic possibility and could be implemented overnight as early as March.

But before any males on here start crowing, note that the move could reduce men's pensions.

Post script: Only a journalist could use the phrase "implemented overnight as early as March". Dear Lord, what happened to English teaching?

fantastic.  ;D ;D

I can't see it happening. Surely risk assessment is done on a variety of factors. Where you live, occupation, annual mileage, age, male or female.

Where would it stop?  A 50 year old female Scottish hillfarmer paying the same as a 20 year old male Birmingham minicab driver.

at the end of the day generalisations, whether the eu or human rights like it or not, have to be taken into consideration. 18 yr old rude boys in their done up pug 306's should be charged more. not just because theyre more of a risk than me at 28 but anyone with a 306 with a bodykit needs shooting  ;D ;D ;D ;D

so i spose my point is if its deemed that boys are more risky girls, their premiums should be more.

In that case it should logically follow that to charge young people more for insurance is ageist, to charge people in Norn Irn more than people on the mainland is racist etc. we must all be treated the same, because we are all the same. If you take that away from them, they have nothing left really. ;)

well i think that, based on claims made, they should generalise in some areas (like sex/age etc) otherwise we'll end up all paying the same premiums in sake of fairness and not to offend people  lol
