Title: Sky broadband data limit....?
Post by: feeutfo on 30 January 2011, 12:55:00
We have used ours up sky tell us. It's a 2mb subscription, and is free with the phone and tv package we have.

Thing is it's only connected to the ps3. Nothing else uses it as we have a much faster o2 connection for her work.

Is it likely the ps3 has used that much data? It's downloaded updates for the console which apparently are always 166gb in size, plus updates for gran tourism 5 which took ages. Other than that I only watch films on it.

Or has somebody hacked onto it. The security is as delivered. We now turn the sky router off when not used. Or have sky tightened up maybe?

Apparently usage can be viewed via sky web site which I haven't been able to do via a pc yet as it's in use....alot.

Are you on a wireless set up? If so, are you sure that the PC, which is in use a lot, hasn't picked up the sky network and it has been using that ?

you do online gaming on the ps3?

On your package the limit is 2Gb per month, I would burn though that in minutes  :-X

worth double checking the PC/Laptops Wifi connections, it could be using that. Other than that maybe someone has hacked it? Out of the box encryption is easily broken...

2GB isn't that much, how long into the month before it was all gone???

Some of the game updates can be 200 MB + and online data transfer game depending, could be as high as upto 20MB per hour...

Its a piss poor limit. As you say, gayStation eats up 166Mb (I assume thats what you meant) with an update.

Even Mrs TB's folks easily consume 3 or 4Gb a month, and they only surf about, and odd bit of iPlayer.

Gran Turismo patches are huge - a few Gigabytes - I think that was it.

Not sure how much is taken by PSN, we are averaging 1GB per day.

Web surfing, gaming, SOME online TV

Adding IPlayer to the mix, and then you are at about an additional 700MB per hour, Firmware 3.56 was 176MB and gut feeling suggests that there will be another update very soon, thanks to Jail Break and all the current issues affect online gameplay of some of the games (Mostly COD MW2)...

Ah ok, gt 5 patch probably did it then, December was one of the months in question so just after santas visit....

....have sky tightened up though? I've had busier months on the ps3 tbh and not a peak from them.... :-/

And I meant 2GB of course, not 2MB.  :-[
