Title: The environmental cost of neodymium
Post by: Nickbat on 30 January 2011, 18:28:21
This is a shocking report into the rush for neodymium, which has mushroomed in recent years...to fulfill the demand for windmills and electric vehicles.

electric vehicles...pah..
didn't clarkson once state that if you include mining in canada shipping it to japan to make batteries then shipping it over here in the form of a toyota prius it would be more envoiromentally friendly to drive a 4ltre jeep or a discovery

its a good point, we need renewable energy but not to the exclusion of all else and from what i know each prius and wind turbine needs masses of the stuff - how is it mined in the states? do they have a better idea of how to do it safely and cleanly? but then its probably so expensive to do it wouldnt be economical.

tricky one, but glad to see you're an old tree hugger at heart Nickbat  :y

You want to here me go on about the litter problem in my local wood! ;) ;D

I hate anything that despoils the environment. I never litter and I always collect my dog's poo.

This situation, though, is somewhat larger scale. ;)
