Just before Christmas I ordered two cambelt kits and two water pumps for a couple of jobs, one in York and one in Leeds. I paid extra for next day delivery and so the parts would be with me in plenty of time and I could check they were correct before I set off. Anyway, the bits didn't arrive next day and after a phone call to Buypartsby it turns out they hadn't posted the bits and I was in the doodoo. I took a chance that the parts would be correct and arranged for the bits to be delivered direct to the customers house which luckily when they arrived were correct and everything turned out OK. Now when this happens once its bad enough but last Wednesday I phoned Buypartsby to check stock availability and was told they had the two cambelt kits and water pumps in so I paid for next day delivery and was told I might be a bit late for delivery on Thursday but it would be with me on Friday and true to form when I got in Friday night there was a card to say the stuff was at the local Post Office ready for me to collect. On Saturday morning I got up knowing that the person driving 230 miles to have his belt and water pump changed would be here in a couple of hours so I got showered and went to collect my cambelt kits and water pumps, can you imagine the panic when the postie hands a small package of stuff wifey had ordered off Ebay >:(
I had to phone around everywhere to get a decent (Gates)kit and water pump which cost me a damn site more than the price I had quoted but telling the person who had just driven for hours he had to turn around wasn't an option so I coughed up an fitted the kit which meant I worked Saturday afternoon for next to nothing.
I phoned Buypartsby this morning and vented my spleen but calmly and asked them what they intended to do about it and their reply was "i'm sorry" to which I replied "sorry isn't enough" so i'm now waiting for a phone call off the boss who was unavailable at the time, I won't hold my breath because I don't expect them to call back but i'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Watch this space ;)

good luck!
given twice bitten twice shy....
Is it worth always keeping a set of the usual stuff in stock and replacing once used?
ie always have a set of cam covers etc, cambelt kits etc I know its a few hundred quid out of pocket though :-/ just may save grief in the long run

I've spoken to Europarts and they'll do the Contitech kits for £2 more than Buypartsby but delivery is free so if Buypartsby don't come up with a nice sorry i'll be taking my 20 to 30 cambelt kits a year elsewhere ;)

The Euro Car Parts by me has always been good and price wise they very reasonable (on most things) ;)

Originally they wanted £117 + VAT for the kit but came down in price when I told them how much Buypartsby were supplying them for ;)

Had a similar problem with a local supplier who refused to 'play ball' regarding dodgy front brake discs for a VW.
>:(
Took all my business elsewhere - simples!
;D
In the current recessionary climate, it's buyers who control the market - not the sellers.
;)
Rant over, so good luck whatever Pete!

Pete,
Not sure if this info will help you out, either for the recent hassle you've had or for future use if it happens again (Knowing how sales service is getting in this country!)

Hope it's of some use, or a starting point anyhow?.

I haven't been overly impressed with them recently, ordered a track rod end for the estate for it's last MOT. The site doesn't state which part no is for which side so I rang them and repeated at every opportunity that the part required was for the N/S - Passenger Side.... Needless to say that they still shipped the wrong side.

Camberly auto factors, dealers, euro car parts, buypartsby, German and Swedish, had agro with all of them on one form or another.
And I prefer to deal locally if possible as it's one less thing to go wrong.

Agreed... We have a local motor parts place. Generally a little more expensive than the bigger companies but much closer and more to the point, rarely supply anything incorrectly :y
Of course, if I can get it significantly cheaper elsewhere I will but I tend to use them as much as possible. They're also great for older cars as they tend to keep a lot of stock :y

I have a Eurocraparts nearby and tend to use them for non genuine parts these days. I try to avoid Helfrauds as I got sick of being given the wrong part just about everytime I asked for something. A 20 mile round trip every time to get it sorted. :(

In fact, thinking about it, if they accept a trade account most will deliver. :y

Well, by deliver, i mean via their own on site van. They will often specify a number of deliveries a week, depending on level of business. All parts direct vans are bloody everywhere round here.
