Title: Cold Callers
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 31 January 2011, 13:37:39
Fing hate them.  Especially as I have a sign on the door saying no cold callers or circulars etc....

This one was from Brittish gas, offering £100 to come back to them, plus a cheaper rate.

1st question was who is my supplier - "Not saying"
2nd question was what is your current tarrif - "you tell me your best offer and I will see if it's worth it"

If you come back to us we will give you £100 - "but will you give me continuouse discounts each month" - Silence.

How much do you pay for your electric - "why?"

Well the £100 offer was based on dual fuel - "But you didnt say that, you said you were Brittish Gas and Gas was all you spoke about" - Sorry - "Bye Bye"

pretty sure it is now ILLEGAL for them to bother you if you have a notice at your front door

do some internet hunting just to be sure, in case i'm wrong and it might only be scotland at the moment, but i'm sure something was mentioned on watchdog/rogue traders late last year

if i'm right, get onto BG and write a big formal complaint, they'll be due a massive fine

I am surprised Skruntie that you allowed them to get that far! :o :o

As soon as I open the front door, and they say British Gas I say "no thank you!" and shut the door in their faces! :D :D :D ;)

found this:

"NEW "NO COLD CALLERS" RULE

The big six energy companies have agreed to a request by Consumer Focus and Trading Standards that their doorstep sales teams WON'T knock at any house with a clearly displayed "No Cold Callers" sign.

WHAT IF THEY KNOCK ANYWAY?

While it'll only be added to the EnergySure code of practice in October, the rule is already in place. If they break it, note their name and employee number and report them to the company. If that fails, follow up at

www.energy-ombudsman.org.uk"

They are a right pita round my way.  But i always tell them where to go a take them right out of the building and past the electric gates at the front of the block. They just wait for some one to walk in and catch the gate behind them. I got the hump with one who wouldnt leave when i told him to so i grab hold of him and marched him out and he phoned his boss and passed me the phone so i walked back to my flat with phone in hand locked the door behind me and sat down talking to his boss for about an hour. All the time he was banging on my door. I then just passed him his phone back with a flat battery. lol

Large gates solve the first problem - the second, of people using the telephone to punt their stuff, is also easliy solved by having an unlisted number and an answering machine. :y

I have a notice saying "Sales people-please  do not call".

I was sitting at the table the other day, I can see outside from there. I saw a young chap with an ID tag round his neck approach the door, read the notice and then knock. He glanced through the window and saw me and smiled at me. I smiled back. He knocked again and looked at me. I looked at him.

This went on for a few minutes until the thick b'stard realised that I wasn't going to open the door, then he huffed off. ;D

haha. I once missed a sky subscription by being .26p short in the bank one friday, then 11.30 one sunday morning the phone rang and it was sky (my phone rejets anonymous numbers, allthough this was not with held I didnt think and just picked it up)

The interesting thing is, it was'nt about a missed payment (or they came accross not trying to show it) but about offering me a discount, (how silly of me for thinking they had an ulteria motif)  Well I was peed off with the guy for interuping my WWE wrestling that I couldnt record on sky basic package.  So I set off moaning about the service as is my right as a custmoer.

We talked about repeats
the lack of of repeats on main channels like Sky 1 not having even a Plus1 hour.
Pixelization in bad weather.
Extended advertising times
Easters starting before it's set start.
No access via RJ45 or USB if I upgraded.
How the menu could not be sorted by channel name.....

the list went on and soon it was 1pm and I causually said to the called were these commision based calls, to which he replied yes.  Then I said "you cant hang up on a customer either can you" he replied that was correct.

End result was I wasted 90 mins of his time because he interupted the 1 TV program I actually like to watch on a sunday. :-/

and sod all has improved since.

I politely tell them i'm not interested and if they take no notice and persist they get the F off and I shut the door in their face. I then get grief off the wife for being so rude ;D

I revert to my training once they start gibberring on the doorstep.

Hold up my hand as though stopping traffic - they always stop talking - then close the door and lock it, all without saying a word.

Childish but Oh! So satisfying and not, I don't think, overly rude?   ;D

i think the worst sales people are safestyle!

we wanted a new backdoor. we thought as they offer their famous ''bogof'' deal we'd also get a free door for the back entrance to the garage.

so the bloke quotes us 2100 quid in the 'bogof' deal.

we then asked what it would cost for just one door and didnt go for the bogof deal... ''oh that would be 700 quid sir''

so if i buy one door for 700 quid why do i not get one free with that??? hahahaha rather ridiculous. they basically offer one door completely free but their price for one door is so inflated its just stupid.

so i went with a local firm, 500 quid, friendly service, and looks great.

safestyle - robbing, thieving b******s!!!!!!  :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

No secret you have bucket loads of self control in comparison to me Broocie & no not at all overly rude. That said i see any marketing/canvassing call as overly rude. How do they know what the homeowner is doing when they knock/ring & what they might be interrupting? To me that is an encroachment on privacy. If i want religeon , a change of suppliers or anything else i'm quite capable of going about it by myself.
These people have chosen to be a nuisance by doing a "non job", should find something more constructive to do & deserve the short thrift they get at my door/phone.

there are people who wind them up.... ie, pretend theyre interested and make them go through everything just so they can say theyre not interested at the end  ;D ;D ;D ;D

thats funny if y'all have got the time but most people dont....... i on the other hand, only being married to my car, just prefer to chill and not get up when they knock on my door  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Oh, dear. Worst possible outcome. Once they're inside, it's even more of a PITA to ditch them. :(

Had some cretin from "@rseholes on line" try that a couple of weeks ago, trying to sell me "up to" 20mbit broadband (not available from my exchange for a start).  ;D

"what's your current broadband?"
"I'm not telling you"
"I'll have a look at your router.."

Err - oh, no you fsckng won't!

Then he fell at the first hurdle..

"I'll need a static IP address, of course"
"Oh, we do them. er.. hang on.. we might not. :-/"
"Bye then. <slam>"

It's not just you. A couple of years back Mrs. KW proudly announced that someone was coming round to paint the exterior of the house - in November in the pi$$ing rain.  >:(

"Oh, it doesn't matter. He uses special paint. They use it on the QE2, etc..." >:(

Conveniently, he left no contact details so was less than impressed when he turns up one (rainy) day and starts unloading his ladders only to be told to go forth and...

I always try to be nice to them. They are just trying to earn a living and more than likely on the minimum wage.

Quite likely so, and if they take no for an answer the first time they hear it then I will be very nice indeed to them.  ;)

In 2002 following a a near death illness we decided that life was to short and we would spend some money on a new kitchen..... ::)

One guy came around and would not leave, I was recovering and not in any position to get physically arsy, had to ring my brother for help, he was gone before help arrived....No wonder some old people sign agreements just to get rid of the salesman.... >:(

We had a gutter and fascia quote and the guy did the got to phone the boss bit, going into a different room, leaving behind his briefcase ::) ::) well rather than swmbo and I talking it over I legged it next door to see how much they paid for the same job, a semi, a couple of years earlier.... :D :D needless to say the salesman left empty handed even after his extra never to be repeated discount....£2200 and got the Job done by a local guy for £900..... :y

Had the drive done on a cold call, a proper job as well, but I said no first, indicating that payment could be in cash, got a phone call a couple of days later with a different price, if I paid cash.... We did, but not till after the Job, great they were, block paved all done properly by friendly workers who knew what they were doing....I had checked the company out and it was a real one with offices in the town I work in... :y
