Coming of the A19 this morning nortbound onto the A1231, slowed down & indicated when i saw a large enough gap. Approaching said gap there was a sliver car to my left & a clear gap between him/her & the cars in front. The whole gap was empty. I stayed in my lane until i saw the silver car flash me in, speed 10/15 mph. As i pulled in still indicating there was a sickening crunch & i stopped dead. No weight only an empty skelly. I got out & had sideswiped a 10 plate megane on my nearside. The lady driver was hysterical but unhurt. I swear she was'nt there when i stated to pull across so not lost in my blind spot. Maybe she was behind me & thought the silver car was flashing her in or just wanted to get in front of me at all costs (some car drivers do this) but i saw the open gap before i was flashed in & she was'nt there then. I know what my kerb mirror is for. I called the police who attended with an ambulance. It's probably not right to name the officer who dealt with me suffice to say he could'nt have been a nicer bloke. I was sat in the cab by then having moved away & feeling a tad shaky. I'm used to impacts from my banger days but this is different. All i did was scuff her car up one side but a second or two more i could've killed her so the shock set in a bit. Said officer got in the cab & really put me at ease then breathalized me! Ist go the machine failed, 2nd go i was ZERO, NEVER drink on a school night. He told me it'll probably be a knock for knock insurance wise as there were no witneses & my gaffer was really good about it. The truck only has a scratch & i'm parked up near Manchester in it now.
I'm surprised how much it shook me up though. The way the woman was so terrified & knowing how close it was to being so much worse & had have been i don't think i could drive a truck again. Guy.

Glad your both unhurt. Its suprising that a 10mph bump can shake you up but im totally with you on that point guy. The 'what ifs' run through your head and its on your mind for a few days after.
So long as your both ok and it was resolved by both of you thats the main thing.

Firstly Guy I am pleased that both yourself and the lady car driver are safe and well, once recovered from the shock of the incident. :)
The Police saying that they feel it is 'knock for knock' suggest that they do not see any 'fault' just an unfortunate situation of two maneuvers at the same time, resulting, unfortunately in a collision.... :(
As said, glad you are OK and that your boss has been understanding about it... :y

Unfortunately Guy, these things happen. When you drive for a living and do so many miles the odds are you will have an accident :'( (hence the loading of insurance premiums for professional drivers ::))
End of the day, nobody was hurt and you hadn't touched a drop :y
I've seen/experienced the "must get ahead" mentality enough too! TBH, I'm surprised the car didn't take avoiding action... I'm always cautious when alongside large vehicles and try not to cruise alongside them if I can help it

Really glad to hear you are OK if a tad shaken up Guy & that it wasn't any worse for all involved. Try & get a fair rest overnight & you'll feel better about it in the morning mate, i'm sure :y

glad your o.k and as we all get older the what if's creep in more and more but if we lived by them we wouldn't go out, chin up mate as forrest gump says shit happens and in this case the shit didn't go too far, try not to let it play on ya mind too much, as you say a no fault situation and a few scuffed bumpers, look at it as that and get on! best wishes

It's good no one was hurt, glad you're ok mate, and no one was hurt so don't worry what might have been. Just be happy you and everyone involved is ok :y

ditto, just glad that you and the lady concerned are ok . from what you say seems like no-ones fault but its bound to shake you up a bit. Pleased that you felt the officers involved did their job well too as all too often they get a bit of a bad press for doing a difficult job. Sure you'll be fine ,if a little more cautious at first, once youre "back in the saddle". Main thing is youre both not hurt.

Glad both parties are OK, buy Guy, if you fall off a bike first thing to do? Once in how many years/miles? Nothing to be ashamed of or to feel guilty of, on our congested roads, and with some of the standard or driving were used to seeing, sometimes its a wonder we dont see it more often. You know you were doing it "by the book" so dont let this knock your confidence mate. I had a guy step out in front of me on Leith Walk a few years back, 15 mph, it felt like I was braking from 50 and still wouldnt stop in time! Heard the huge whump from nearside front as I struck him, just as I came to a total stop. Have never felt so sick! Couldnt see anything of him in nearside mirrors, ANYWHERE, was convinced he was under N/S front wheel, seemed like an age to get out of the cab, as I came round the door to the front of the cab, the guy was standing there, facing the grille, 6 inches from it, jibbering. He turned to me and started apologising immediately, admitted he wasnt watching and just stepped off pavement to cross the road. Aked if he was OK as it was a LOUD whump, not a mark on him but theyre was a small bump on the N/S front corner and we could only think it was his backpack that had struck. I hadnt had a drink the night before but could have murdered one right there! Made all the worse by happening right outside a very good Malt Whisky shop (Excellent choice of Malts)

It always shakes you up, and in your case you know how bad it could have been for the other driver. Hopefully it will all be sorted out between the ionsurance companies. At least it didn't involve your own personal vehicle, which is always a good thing!! ::) ::) 8-) 8-) ;)
