I know some of you are very good and do not have a credit card...... :P :P :P
Well I do, and I have had a letter today; basically from 1st April my repayments will almost double, I am not in any arrears with them, nor have I ever been...What is this all about? it seems to have just come out of the blue and initially is going to upset the budget..... :( :( :(
-
I have too many Mike!! ::) ::) ::) ::)
I hope one day I can disappear so they cannot find me :D :D :D :D :D ;)

End of an interest free period or promotional rate?? Some have whacked up the APR on them recently Barclaycard have upped my purchase rate so looks like Mr Egg can get spanked for the next six months while thats still at 0%.
Kite the card and save a few quid :y

-
Yep, quite a few balance transfer deals around, up to 17 months interest free. Usually a 3% transfer fee though. :y

You said you would not say anything........ ::) ::) ::)

most likely a standard spam letter? If you've nothing owing, you've got nothing to worry about.
I have one credit card, I used it a lot when commuting to London, had considerable 4 figure sum on it most months, but it was always paid off in full. When it came to my mortgage application, apparently i had one of the best credit ratings they had ever seen. Mind you not hard as i went to the Banbury branch ::)
The problem is a lot of people think credit card = free money!

I think this is the government rather than the CC company Mike.
If you only pay, say, 2% of you outstanding balance each month as the minimum payment, they can screw you for thousands. I think the goverment made it 5% or similar.

I know you're not serious ..... but why is not having a credit card being good? :-? :-?
I have two with some kind of balance on them. One is paid off by direct debit for the total amount each month and the other had a £few thousand that was moved on each few months to a zero % card. That card now has less than £150.
Credit cards aren't the evil monster that they are made out to be as long as you're sensible when using them. I haven't always had nearly zero on them, mine have had £1000's on them in the past but that wasn't MBNA or Visa or any other credit card provider's fault, it's been mine for spending what I didn't really have.
:y :y :y
When driving through France how would I have fuelled my car in strange places every 300 miles? Credit cards are great ........ used sensibly. :y :y :y

Not sure that people who bought at the highpoint of prices will agree completely there ::) ::)
We're lucky our house is still worth what it was when we bought it... Just about :y

Agreed, in principle, I have a mortgage and my house is worth, even today significantly more than I owe, and even more if I get round to those little jobs that need doing... ::) ::) ::)

Guys I work in a bank and of all my colleagues (some 80 were working together) only one has a revolving credit card. Think I sais enough how "good" these cards for you are
-
Credit cards have considerable advantages if you play them right. You have considerable protection under the CCA when making purchases with a credit card compared with other payment methods. Don't use them as a means of borrowing money, though.
Reap them for their positive points and let some other sucker pay for it through their silly interest rates, I say. ;)

I've never put up a Poll on OOF before, but if its possible for the individual results to be hidden then it would be interesting to see what the range of credit card debt is within OOF members.
What do you think? If anyone else thinks it's a good idea can someone put one up?

Agreed, as long as used sensibly credit cards can be very useful indeed.
-
I have nine or ten and I use them all with the exception of American Express.
What a waste of plastic. I tried to pay for my petrol....(Sorry but we do not accept AE). I tried to book a hotel room....(Sorry but we do not accept AE). Shopping at the supermarket...(Sorry but we do not accept AE). Buying over the internet..(We accept all major credit cards EXCEPT AMERICAN EXPRESS..Doh....time and time again. Hopeless... :-/ :-/
-
Funny what you said about AE.
Here it is one of the best cards, and usually the only one with which you can buy something while being credited for a year without the interest.
-
Managed wisely...brilliant but pay off in full and avoid paying the interest as it can mount up very quickly.
-
in the past ive made hundreds on credit cards :y :y
borrowed on 0% and invested it for the 0% time then paid it back and then repeat with the next card.
sadly you cant to it with todays rates.
