Title: My mate's been caught speeding...on a scooter.
Post by: Turk on 10 February 2011, 00:21:05
90 in a 30 !!!  :o    Isn't that an automatic ban ?  :-/

I feel a bit sorry for him as he lives and breathes motorcycling. He's been riding for over 60 years and never wanted a car licence.

I know speed limits are there for a reason and rightly so, but where he was caught has nothing but wide open land for hundreds of yards on each side (dunno why it's a 30 anyway), so I hope he gets leaniency and doesn't lose his licence as he's always been a cautious, sensible rider.
I'm amazed to hear he's ever exceeded the speed limit...let alone tripled it.  :o

This is the 'scooter' he got caught on.

Unless hes even more lucky than I was, it will be a matter of deciding between a long ban and a custodial sentence. ::)

Yep, I thought that was also an option.  :(

In Brunstroms day it would have been the gallows. ;D ;D
(although he would have needed to be a bit further north)

sorry but if he is stupid enough to get caught doing 90 in a 30 zone then he deserves a long ban  regardless of the road he was on

whilst i feel for him, he was way over the limit and if i was a judge taking into the account of his age i wouldn't be giving him his licence back again may sound hard but he must be hitting 75-80 and how good are the reactions at that age

Some speed limits are there for noise reduction as I understand it.  They may have no bearing on accident prevention.  Also, there is a minimum distance that they would apply a limit to; so if there was a particularly un-predictable hazard they might have to limit a longer length of road than just the hazard area.

N.B. I'm not trying to argue that all speed limits are appropriate! ;)

Can't see custodial or more than 6 months.

Why?

Because pissheads get a year, and we all know pissheads are more dangerous.

I'm sure he'll be back on two wheels..

I suspect the back wheel will have pedals attached, though.

Triple the limit no matter the scenario is going to be dangerous and is asking for big trouble.

I'd only do 90 on NSL dual carriageways, in a 30 is quite frankly absurd.

********** False Alarm **********

A certain OOFer, who may be in a position to offer 'off the record' advice has pm'd me for further info on the matter, and on obtaining the requested details I found out that Stan was winding folk up.
It was 35mph !! ::)

If he decides to contest it...I'll be at the back of the courtroom shouting "HANG THE LITTLE SH*T !!"
