Will be going into Derbyshire at some point this week and may have a run past Lady Bower res and up into Derwent Valley.
Started to think about the history of the place and am aware of the sunken village. In one of the hot summers as a kid at junior school (I think) we had a day trip out to Derbyshire to see the well dressings in some village, and part of the trip included a visit to Lady Bower where we where told the water level was so low that remains of the village could be seen and we would be able to see the church spire.
Just had a look round the net and ended up on the site above and it seems the church was detroyed before I was born. So am now starting to wonder what we actually saw, or maybe alziemers is starting to kick in. :-/ :'(

We (wife & kids) walked on the dry bed of the resvoir, but I can't remember if it was the 1989 or 1995 drought. I remember seeing foundation walls, stone gate posts etc, but don't remember anything substantial. I have some photos 'somewhere', but my pre-digital filing system leaves much to be desired! here is a useful link http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=83080

Probably Skruntie you did see the remains of the village, but your imagination filled in with detail what was not there! I know that has happened to me, and must be a common thing when dealing with history.
I have always be fascinated with historical fact since about 6 years of age, and everything that was happening around me in terms of old industries. In High Brooms, Tunbridge Wells, that was the brick works the gas works and the railway. I am convinced in the case of the gas works I saw one misty morning in 1957a very large steam engine, that had brought in a coal train, standing outside. I now see a 9F standing there; but I know I wouldn't have known anything about 9F's or many other classes at that time, apart from the common Schools Class that my father had pointed out to me once in Tonbridge Station! So my mind filled in later the 9F as though I had seen and recognised it in 1957!! ::) ::) ::)
Isn't the human brain a wonderful thing! :D :D :D :D ;)

Don't worry about it Skrunts. I often remember things when I was a kid that didn't actually happen. The product of an over-imaginative mind.
Although I was actually abducted by aliens :o

Just guessing here Skruntie but Tissington Estate has a huge Well Dressing each year so this could be the one you went too..
As for Lady Bower (which I don't know if you know is where Dam Busters was fimed :y) there was just a load of rubble last time we were there whenthe reservoir was low, also booklets to buy which will bring you up to speed. :y
Have a look for the Memorial for the Ode Guy who died and his dog lay with him never leaving his side until he eventually joined him :(

Need to find the pictures I took and see if there are any of the village, I remeber seeing the well dressing ones a few years ago but not sure on the village ones. Old age starting to creep in. :-/
