Title: True or False
Post by: Auto Addict on 15 February 2011, 09:03:25
Thinking of changing my ISP, worried about having to notify everyone about a new e-mail address.

If I go with BT, my preference, they say they can intercept my old emails.

Is this true or false?

Not enamoured with BT.  I use Zen.co.uk.

They can't "intercept" your emails unless they go via their mail relaying system and then it might even be illegal?  What they probably mean is that you could set up your existing mailbox to forward all emails to a BT account.  This is what you would need to do if you want to keep your email address unless you have your own domain in which case they could take it over from your old ISP with your approval.

why not do both bits separatley...

get a gmail or similar account, and slowly transfer everything over to it, once your happy your not missing anything, you can then change isp, happy in the knowledge your mails are separate leaving you freer to chop and change in the future

Sound advice. Keep them separate and you are free to change ISP in future.

.. and they can't "intercept" your old emails. It isn't technically possible. They will continue to be routed to your old ISP and when they pull the plug on your account they will stop accepting mail.
