Title: Plod confusion
Post by: Lesopc on 15 February 2011, 19:32:30
Does anyone else find that other drivers seem to behave much better when they follow in a Miggy. It seems to me that people seem to still think you are a plod car even though most forces stopped using them a few years ago????

Yes on motorways at night. Much amusement had winding up Audi drivers... ;D :-X

During the day, my big white estate would appear to be invisible :-/

(if the number of tw*ts that keep pulling out in front of me are anything to go by >:()

Yes it is quite funny that when in an Omega sometimes other drivers act in the same way as when I have been in a marked police patrol car.

On a motorway I have spooked other fast travelling motorists by accelerating up to their speed, to actually get past slow moving vehicles, but suddenly they reduce speed and keep looking in their mirror, as they do with a marked patrol car!  Very strange!! :D :D :D :D :D ;)

All the above points seem true, Tight gaps, Night drives etc. Makes me LMAO. The only thing that would convince them more in the plod stakes would be a dash mounted camera and a few roof ariels.

When I had the other Omega .. the 2.5 Blue one . driving in France was great fun .... it was almost the same colour as the French police vehicles .. and everything just got out of the way .. :)

I think it is some of the best fun you can have without actually breaking any laws. I think that the Omega and the Senator before it were some of the best looking/performing plod cars ever in the UK anyway. The only cars i think look/perform (only slightly) better as plods are the Holden Commodores in Australia and New Zealand and maybe the Cadillac CTS-V i saw once from the USA.

3 aerials on mine. ::) Taxi sign is about the same size/shape as a small light bar. Silhouette and sheer acceleration are the two best weaponstools for lane 2/3 clearance esp at night  :-X. Roof sign off and it works quite well during day too  ;D

Any mig in white or black probably gets the best reaction and as later plate as possible ;)

Funny you should say that ::)

TVP number plates are a small detail. Can't use the car finder at heathrow because the machine can't read the plates :-/ Shame ;D

nothing better than driving on motorway, in ex-plod estate which in certain light  you can still see  the outline of the police badges in the tinted rear quarter windows plus im a contractor so i wear my hi-viz  ;), the amount of bmw's , audi's and mercs that tend to speed past take a sideways glance and slam on the brakes makes me chuckle and if they dont slow down i am rather apt at pulling straight out and accelerating up fast behind them they soon pull over  ;) ;D

Had a very amusing run up to York, early one morning a couple of weeks ago. Did that to a silver Audi on the M1. It took him a couple of miles to decide to overtake me, then he went for it. About 20 seconds later he was doing 65 in the nearside lane ;D ;D ;D.
Backfired when we hit the roadworks though, tw*t wouldn't do more than 40 >:(

I still occasionally drive on the motorway at 60 to keep fuel consumption to a decent level and have had people slow down noticeably as they approach me in the middle/outside lane.  It doesn't happen as much as it used to though.  Spotty kids in Renault clits still tend to get very paranoid if I'm behind them however.

I'm a bit of a sod for keeping left at all times too, which may have made some people suddenly observe the Highway Code.  That and the hi-vis jacket hanging in view of the rear door window.  And me wearing a white shirt.

Having said all that I'd wouldn't dream of impersonating the Police and never been remotely interested in being one either, but there has been a couple of occasions where I have flashed my lights in the Mig to warn others I am nearby and they've stopped their antics very quickly.

Probably the most amusing moment I had was when a group of about 6 marked Police bikes came barrelling up a dual carriageway and slowed down before rather cautiously overtaking me!  I think they might have been on their way to being delivered or something as the rear beacon lights were covered up, but it was funny all the same.
