Hot on the heels of the prisoners right to vote debacle, the supreme court (on advice from the European court according to sky news) has decided that it is a breach of the human rights of paedophiles and other sex offenders to keep their names on the sex register for life.
They are to be given the right to appeal to have their names removed from the register (after 15 years afaik) in order to "redress this injustice".
Afaik there is no known cure for paedophillia, so how can they cease to be a risk ?
I despair at this country, I really do. I wonder how bad things have to become before we draw a line in the sand and say enough is enough.
Is there any point worrying about it any longer ? Is there any hope left ?
I fear we are close to the "last one to leave turn the light off" scenario. >:( :( :'(

It,s been heading towards the toilet pan, ever since that smiling lying Blair got into power.
Let,s hope that if its the only good thing that the tories do,is repeal or change the human rights laws.
-
Is it true to say that all those permanently on the sex offenders register are paedophiles? What about those who are later found not guilty?
-
To think that they could gain access to jobs where they could re offend!
It should be for life for the safety and protection of others and for respect of the families already affected.

Cameron promised to do just that but changed his mind as soon as he got elected. ::)

I didnt say everyone on the register is a paedo. I would imagine that someone who has been proved to be wrongly convicted would be removed from the register under current legislation ?
There a quite a few serial rapists who would also fall into the same bracket, and imo they should stay on the register fo life as well.
Its another example of the well being and rights of the perpetrators of heinous crimes being placed above the rights and well being of the victims.
Personally, I dont think the situation should arise in the first place, because those who are guilty of serious sex crimes shouldnt be allowed to see daylight again anyway. ;)

NO. but you kinda presumed it viz
Afaik there is no known cure for paedophillia, so how can they cease to be a risk ?
I know two people who have been banged-up on such charges that I strongly suspect are innocent. I have knowledge of another who is also supposed by trusted friends to be innocent.
-
"paedophiles and other sex offenders" is what I said. ;)
Not sure what you mean by Viz - something to do with the comic ? :-/
If people are wrongly convicted of paedophile type crimes, I think that must be one of the worst things that could possibly happen to anyone, and they would have my complete sympathy, but tbh it has nothing to do with what this thread is about. ;)

I'm afraid, Chris, it would be even worse for the poor blighters if I were in power. No good it being found that you were innocent all along if you'd been hung already.
Oh well...collateral damage I suppose. ;D
-
correct me if I'm wrong (and maybe some OOFers with police experience can help here) but you can be put on the offenders list for being drunk and urinating in public nowadays, so yes, theres some nasty sickos on the list but i'd guess this is more to do with the drunk and stupid not being permanently tarred rather than an amnesty on the truly dangerous, surely? :o

Simple offender 1 a rapist "Can I be removed?" "No"
offender 2 18YO with 15YO girlfriend "Can I be removed?" "Yes"
Problem is only winners are the legal systme

But you would be arrested and strung up before you could prove your innocence

OK then cartoon porn - should people with it be locked up and on the register.
This included your dirty drawings, Japanese Hentai (I think it is called) and the Olympic logo

The Lisa Simpson thing which, in some countries, would see you locked up and on the sex offenders register (and hanged, if STMO was in power), yep.

If thats true then it shouldnt happen imo. The list should be for those convicted of "sicko crimes" and they should stay on it - assuming we are stupid enough to let them loose on the general public again. :y
Assume its not the case in London, as I was recentl amazed to see a urinal in Hoxton square where you just stand and take a leak in full view, and fully exposed to passers by. ::) :o
It is trendy Shoreditch though. ::)

for a tragically unfortunate logo design? :o :o :o
even STMO isn't that nuts or power-crazy.............actually on second thoughts..........

The logo wouldn't .. but if you drew out the interpretation (which I'm sure has been done) ..

Yes - still could be included in the new laws, and it is also a statutary offence which means no defence allowed, so you could email a retired Labour politician a drawing of children at it and have them arrested AND jailed, and also placed on the SO register.
This is what Nulab had planned for us.
Possession automatically makes you guilty even if it was downloaed accidentally or by someone else. Or even owning previously legal cartoons.
Commonly called thought crimes.

i actually agree with your original post Albs, just trying to work out the thinking behind it, of course i've assumed that euro law deploys logical common sense.....which is rarely the case tbh :o
