So I had to get the bus the otherday... :-[ and I'm at the bus stop checking out the time table (produced by the bus company) when I notice a smart metal sign above the timetable advertising a text service 'timetable'.
'That's clever!' I thought, thinking that it would give me exact timing of the next bus, but when I tried it, it just came back with the times of the next 3 buses as per the bus company's timetable... :(
This service is operated by Devon County Council, and given that Devon is a big county, it must have cost a lot of money to set up (with all the signage etc) and administer. I'm not sure what it cost me to use, the cost of a regular text message I think, but I very much doubt it's enough to cover the costs of the scheme.
Now given that this service just replicates the information freely provided by the bus company, I feel that it's a gross waste of public money >:( and I'm wondering if anybody else has noticed areas where the local council operates where it's not necessary?? ::)

Well OK, but I was just highlighting an example of where council tax money is (in my opinion) spent unnessarily. I should have phrased the heading as a question! :)
And the text service must have cost thousands, just to replicate something that already existed >:( :o
