I dont know whats wrong with me but I am getting absolutely obsessed with this place......
Its the ghost town in Ukraine that used to house the workers and famillies of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station before the disaster there
The whole town of Pripyat was evacuated in under 3 hours apparently, and as a result there are still plenty of personal possessions left as they were that day
Totally fascinates me, the whole thing, as horrific a tragedy as it was, something is pulling me to visit the place and I am planning to do so now for my 40th birthday in June
For those gamers amongst us Pripyat is also heavily featured on COD Modern Warfare ("All Ghillied Up") and COD Black Ops
There are some haunting pictures of the town on the internet, including the famous town sign, the swimming pool complex and the abandoned amusement park

M
fantastic beats going for a hot air baloon ride or long wekend in the country.
I bet it will be a real eye opener. I went to the Soviet Union in 1980 and it was an amazing experience on many levels.
Take some photos and post em up when you come back particularly if you grow an extra head. ;D ;D ;D ;D

seen a few posts where people make the treck, you are only allowed a certain amount of minutes touching the ground, never put a hat or can of drink or anything on the ground.
Its a bit scary when they put the geiger counter closer to the ground and the readings go up! :o

Tunnie
Is it possible that some of our forum members have already been and they did put their tinnies down on the ground for rather too long? ;D ;D

today probably we are thinking parallel :-?
after I wake up I wanted to see chernobyl on youtube ..
first I wanted to share videos but after I give up..
here are some videos that really made me sad.. they work in an area where radiation levels were many millions times more than a human can handle..and without proper dresses ..all those who you watch died in big pain within few weeks :'(

Very very interesting videos, and when on youtube there were some linked to the disaster which i could not bring myself to watch
Very hard going to watch what happened to all the people involved, the residents, the workers and the emergency response teams, but to think of them is to remember them.

Check out the Subbrit and 28DaysLater reports on Pipryat. :y

Quite so M, there were many instances of outstanding bravery from those who endeavoured to rescue the victims and control the immediate effects of the disaster.
Scores of those died as a result of that bravery.
A very sober reminder of how tenuous our hold on life is in the face of such power.

I strongly recommend to watch those episodes for those who prefer to obtain electric from nuclear..
until today I could accept nuclear power plants whenever asked but when I watch those..my answer is definitely NO..
I would stay in candle light and without internet and any electric/electronic gizmos but will not accept this never..
Battle of Chernobyl 10 episodes..
