Is it time to get up yet??
My throat likes a Badgers Bum this morning!!!
-
It was great to put faces to names yesterday, and thanks to Matt for organising the day, and to all the cooks and bottle washers. Unfortunately I left without donating for the catering, so can I forward something to whoever provided all the tea/coffee etc?
The meet seemed to me to epitomise - whether you like the name or not - 'The Big Society'. :y :y :y
-
sounds a good one, hope someone was out with a camera :y

Errm... Well... Not entirely sure any cameras saw much action, although Guffer did seem to be taking a few snaps on his phone

Yes - those dogs have started off again!

Any piccy's, Ms Zoom? Might be good to get a reference point before the curry and ale takes its toll..... ;D
Glad you managed to make it. Its always worth the chance to match names/faces/real life personalities. ;)
I wasn't taking any, but a camera was flashing away so they must be on their way! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Any chance of a photograph or two to remind those of us in less than charitable parts of the Kingdom that there is, after all, some form of civilised activity taking place somewhere? :-* :-* :y
-
i have some pics of the meet which i will post a little later when i get home :y
-
P6UL K has had an issue on the way home though. Bit if a rattle by the sound of it. Hopefully Aux pulleys related. :-/
I just wish i heard the 'knock-knock-knock-knock' before i'd got to Clacket Lane services :-/
Had a look with the torch and one bolt was hanging out of the water pump pulley and one the head had completely disappeared!! Now i know what the assumption is ::) But i torqued everything as per the Haynes manual that Chris left me.
Anyway, i'm off out there now to inspect further.....

Splendid. 8-) :y :y

I have posted a few on photobucket, but, despite reading the guide at least ten times, I am still none the wiser as to how to upload them onto this site. :'( :'( :'(

In photobucket, selected the picture you want to display by selecting them, then click the link that says 'generate HTML codes' or something similar to that, then in the box that says 'IMG codes for BB's or Bulletin Boards' Copy all the codes using CTRL+ C or i think it does it automatically then paste them (CTRL + V) into the thread on here.
Simples. ;D

I can sympathise with that after having a new cambelt kit fail after 2 miles wiping out the heads.
Had you loctitied the bolts?

There is a box called HTML link, but when I click on it, it just says 'copied', and no sign of the above quoted link anywhere.

No, thats it!
When it says 'copied' it has automatically copied them onto your pc... Goto the area on here where you want to post the pictures, start a new thread or post topic and instead of typing in the type area, click in it so the cursor is there then right click your mouse and select 'Paste' OR press the CTRL key then then the 'V' key together.
And it will paste the links into the post area, click thread preview and view your hardwork lol

What a fab weekend, Thanks to all that gave me a hand with the Elite, back in Swindon now and so is the car. Must have done somthing right :o :o :o
-
Thanks to all that made it, I noticed that a few didn't but i dont know why. It was a great meet and it made me very happy to share what I have access to with you. Hopefully I or another member be able to have another similar meet prior to the big meets thus leaving us more time to have fun rather than working on our cars :y
Thanks also to those who stayed behind to clear up, the admins for bringing their tech2's and omega knowledge, Seth for finally releiving HC of an LPG tank, those who brought food and........erm.......???
Oh yeah and Lazytinker for being useful flipping burgers and making tea ;D
My guts are in bits from the curry last night, I am absolutely shattered and nothing is ready for tomorrow AM's 5am start but I had a fantastic weekend, cheers everyone :y
-
I want to post my BIG thanks to Guffer for the meet, Stewart(Woody), for all his help with my Tw*t of a steering idler, and Kevin for the Tech 2, plus all the other guys for advice, chat and a great Saturday. I never thought working on cars,(a bit) could be so much fun!
Next time I will partake in the Beer and Curry!
-
Aaah Beeeeer, dry roasted peenuts and fri nights chinese on the way :y
Bloody knackered, back ache, although not as bad as i feared, is now raging. Tens is flat out.
Got alot done this weekend, thanks to Entwood, Shakeng for help with atf change, 2woody for the dif swap and above all thanks to Guffer, cracking venue..... And everyone else who came along.
Roll on the next one.
And Paul, we discussed your issue and came to the conclussion you describe with water pump, those bolts are set to very low torque, several of is have done the exact same thing. ::) :-X easy done.
May be able to turn those bolts put from the back.

Hi Chris, yes i managed to get the pump off again today and after speaking to James - Twiglet i did as suggested and wound thru the remaining thread of the bolt and they came out - Luckily!
Off to Vauxhalls tomorrow for all new bolts for all the pulleys, some thread lock, another bottle of anti-freeze and some seals.
I can only assume that the knocking could of been an air lock perhaps?
The car REALLY drank a lot of fuel on the way home, it was ridiculous! What could of the cause been for that to happen? :-?

Some possibles, cam timing(gulp), multi rams, maf....? Kev checked the cam timing so start with the others. Does it drive ok? Power all there? I guess you cant tell yet? Pedall trick it for codes too.
Kerp an eye on the coolant lavel, it'll take a while to settle as it self bleeds the air back to the header tank.

Thanks to Matt for organising such a superb meet. :y
A really enjoyable weekend and great to put so many names to faces.

Massive thank you to Guffer and Kevin for helping me with my cambelt change. Excellent weekend, really good to meet everyone. :y
I think lazytinkerlazydocker could have a new career as a burger flipper. ;D
Seriously though, thanks to Guffer for organising/hosting the weekend.

Matt Sorry, I think I left my old radiator in the workshop, I don't need it but I didn't want to leave my scrap lying around for someone else to discard, I thought I had put it in my boot.
Also TB did you pick up the Vauxhall College Books

All good then :y

Yeah "Mr B", it's Mrs Sethsmate's pride & joy, I'll have you know ;D
'Twas a great weekend - so a great big 'Valleys thanks' to Matt for doing the business :y
(And also for the 'loan' of a dollop of Sikaflex too! :D)
Loads of work done and a great time had by all :y :y :y

I turned the crank by hand earlier so all the TDC markings met and their all spot on, even the tensioner markings line up - I took pictures of the 4 cam pulleys and the tension for you to see, i'll post them up tomorrow.
I've not driven it since i got home last night, i didn't want to tempt fate with that one bolt in the water pump pully!
There's been no fault lights or anything during the drive home last night, i'll do the pedal trick if i get a chance tomorrow.
-
I can only echo the comments already made... What a cracking weekend :y :y :y
I'm not going to be long before I'm in bed though as 3 consecutive late nights early mornings ::) with rather a lot of beer and food have taken their toll :-X ::)
A big thanks to Guffer for his arrangements and to everyone who told me off when I started to get involved in anything that was remotely damaging to my back ::) ::)
An extra special thanks has to go to the kind people who did the few little bits to my car for me :y :y TB, Kevin and Chris... I am very grateful :y :y
Oh... Who's ATF did you stick in Chris? I should have parted with some beer tokens for it but got sidetracked trying to help Jim (as much as I could ::)) as we suddenly realised his car was in lots of pieces on the floor ::) ;D
Had a surprisingly good run back too :-X :-X ::) ::) After a slight detour to see a mad Irishman I walked into the pub to meet SWMBO at just after 9 :y :y But who left my car set to run on petrol? Didn't notice until I was almost a Guildford >:( :D
-
May I add my thanks to Chrisgixer Kevin & TB for looking at my bushes,(and giving me the bad news!), to Entwood for helping me fill the ATF, should'nt have taken a shower in it though Nige ::) , a great Saturday in my case, and a delight to watch the experts at work, and a pleasure to meet everyone else. Thanks again Matt. LD, do I owe you for consumables? :y

Just like to add my Thanks to Guffers for organising everything .. great venue, good company, cheap beer, excellent nosh ( LDs efforts, the curry and breakie :) ).. and I got some jobs done on the motor as a bonus. :y :y
Excellent in all aspects :y :y :y

Oh, after a wee kip, i've remembered. I didnt pay Guffer for the dif oil, TB for the fuel filter :-[ and thank Lazytinker for picking up the kit and for his dear wifes brownies, and Kevin for the loan of his dif oil.
Bit of a rush to get everything finished in the end. Hopefully didnt leave Guffer too much to tidy up after us?
I notice TB is in usual pose in the pics ;D ....

Not a problem really .. any car that's done 104000 will have bits that wear out, it is the expertise like yours that tells me when the stuff HAS worn ... I can then do the work ... my problem is not knowing how to check most of these things !!
and that is one of the best parts of a meet ... the help and advice freely given by people who do know :y :y :y :y

I've come across the odd water pump that has raised ribs (3 i think) and the original bolts are too long and just catch on the ribs, its worth a look

Many thanks to Matt the host - and especially for sneaking me in at the last minute. It's good to put faces to names at last.
Managed to change a diff, a diff pinion seal and the steering idler that didn't want to come off, together with some other odd jobs, too. I promise to let someone work on my car next time - it never actually got a spanner on it at all on Saturday.
I left at 17.30 or so and drove home. Didn't do badly, was in my bed before midnight 335 miles later.
As it happens, I could have stayed over, the event we were going to yesterday got cancelled at the last minute. Could have done without spending the entire day in the pub, too !
-
Sorry for the late post, I got absolutely screwed on the journey home, but that couldn't dampen an excellent weekend.
Thanks for Guffers for arranging a great venue and everything else around the weekend. Lazytinker as well, for being the tea boy, and for doing an errand for me on the way. But mostly, thanks to everyone who attended, got stuck in, and made it an enjoyable, productive weekend.

LOL, and I never gave you anything for 6,000 litres of DexIII - it all got a bit of a rush at the end :-[. And Kevin Wood's diff oil. Glad we checked the ATF level now ;D

I'm not entirely sure there was an ATF level until we put some in. :o
.. and to ease Nigel's conscience after pinching my parts ;), we found my pinion seal no longer appears to be leaking and the level was fine.

Not sure, not unloaded car yet :-[
If they were by my table, chances are they got lobbed in my boot when all the other stuff went it - it all got a bit rushed at the end ;D

I wished I'd gone that way, seeing as both the M3 and M40 were bo-laxed

At the risk of repeating everyones sentiments, I would alos like to thank Guffer for organising an excellent weekend and giving us access to his fantastic facilities!!
I would also like to thanks everyone that helped me nervously navigate my way through an ATF and Diff oil change, followed by replacement of cam cover gaskets! The long and distinguished list includes P6UL K, Entwood, Guffer, Kevin, Chrisgixer, Lazytinker, Taxi Al and Jack to name but a few!!
I had an awesome weekend, and managed to tackle some jobs that I would never have been able to do on my own!! :y :y
So Chris, when are you organising the Suspension bush party??? :-/ :o :'(
-
Also TB did you pick up the Vauxhall College Books
Not sure, not unloaded car yet :-[
If they were by my table, chances are they got lobbed in my boot when all the other stuff went it - it all got a bit rushed at the end ;D
Yes they where next to all your boxs, no problems is you have them just keep hold of them until next time we meet up :y
-
Glad you got back safely Jim... I never like it when things start to get rushed ;)

Cheers Mate, The car was running great and the temp gauge stayed at 85 all the way home :y
-
And Paul, we discussed your issue and came to the conclussion you describe with water pump, those bolts are set to very low torque, several of is have done the exact same thing.
Pedal trick it for codes too.
Kerp an eye on the coolant level, it'll take a while to settle as it self bleeds the air back to the header tank.
I've come across the odd water pump that has raised ribs (3 i think) and the original bolts are too long and just catch on the ribs, its worth a look
I'll check that when i get the new bolts Pete, thanks for the heads up :y

Yup, I stole the brownies. Live with it.
Warmed with a scoop of ice cream, or warmed with chocolate custard. Yum.

Havent had a chance to taste them yet, but judging by their near legendary reputation maybe Mrs Docker should consider starting a production line, and going into business with them. :)

Funny you should mention that... A cake shop/mail order company is on the cards if we were to come into enough money ;)
