Jimmy Young, Jeremy politics Vine (Drone)? Wogan, Evans??? Johnny Walker, Simon Mayo??? It just keeps getting worse!!! :( Now we're losing Radcliffe & Maconie in the evenings.
Who makes these decisions & are they trying to turn the whole station more mind numbing than local radio?
The only good move was Sarah stuck up Kennedy doing one. No one that annoying should be inflicted on the general public in the first place. ::)
-
I still think Steve Wright is funny and I used to like Wogan when he was on, especially the Janet and John bits.
-
i had radi 2 on for a bit on the way to stoke.
it was pants imo
-
Ken Bruce is alright though :y
-
Mayo is now on Smooth which shouldn't be hard to find as its preprogrammed into all omegas at the factory ;D ;D
-
I stopped shortly after Wogan went, tried with Evans but now listen to local station.......... :)
-
Radio 2 has
declined changed. Still a million times better than dumbed-down Radio 1, which is clearly produced for stupid people. Actually, I think Radio is produced by stupid people. And that useless fat idiot Moyles is about a funny as a bad dose of Tims.

Evening Pete. Wogan was hilariousm as was Janet & John. Not with you on Steve Wright though. He was great years back on Radio 1 but today it's all "Hi Steve love the show, wish my Granny happy birthday etc".
He's got bland, boring & talks through the "non stop" oldies!

Oh dear. I love Moyles show & listen every day. I know he is a fat self obsessed gobshite who can be REALLY irritating but who am i to sit in judgement of that??? He really pees me off at times but i love him & he has me in tears sometimes...morbid fascination, like slowing down to look at a car crash & the rest of the team really make it work.
I do understand how some folk hate him though, i do sometimes!! :y
-
I found "Absolute Radio" recently in the Omega - actually a station that plays decent music. DJs aren't up to much, but fortunately they don't talk that much!

he's a 40 something geeza who pretends to be 20. every new tune he plays he makes out like its amazing but its just rubbish. and he knows that!!!
i found him mildly amusing once when i was effectively forced to listen to radio 1 for a year when my ex mrs used to drive me to work but in my mind he's just a huge tub of lard. only in my opinion of course :y :y :y

Do you mean that daft mare that won't eat anything & reckons soap is bad for you, use natural crab crap instead?
She used to be a backing singer for George Michael....i rest my case! PATHETIC!

I certainly don't listen for the music as it's all cack. I'd be happy if he talked bollix & never played any.
I don't listen to Radio 1 at any other time either & i'm sleeping with Fearne Cotten!!!!! :P :-*

Dunno how i posted that in there, if i tried to i'd probably cock it up! ::)

;D ;D ;D

:( steve wright used to be good ,but his show is just an advert for who's on the " one show " later that evening, chris evans annoying when he insists on talking to small children about what they're doing at school , started listening to ( i'm sorry, i know :( ) simon bates on smooth radio -ok don't all shout at once!
-
Used to like wogan in the mornings - which surprised me as I cant stand him on TV. Used to love Johnny Walkers drivetime - he is a radio god.
Steve Wright has got tedious, Evans is hateful.
I have taken to listening to radio 3 at times (I blame Zulu) I have had relief from all of it recently as Olympia very kindly sent me 3 CD,s all the way from county Kerry of a guitarist by the name of Larry Carlton last week, so they will be in the CD player for quite some time to come. 8-)

Aye (and a few years back, now!), there was 'Mr Angry from Purley', 'Malcolm from the Arts Council', and 'Gervaise'
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

What frequency are they on Aaron me ol' bud? :D
-
Steve Wright also used to have a cleaner woman from Belfast who was quite funny - "away you and get some therapy" and "neednt think youve got authority" were the catchphrases iirc.
He has a bloke playing the part of a daft old pensioner these days (Barry ?) who is quite funny at times, but mostly I find it a bit dreary tbh. Maybe Im getting old. ::)
-
I havent listened to any radio stations for about the last four years. The only two programmes I did listen to were Paul Jones's Rhythm and Blues show and I sorely miss Mark and Lard! Nowadays, when at work driving my lorry I only listen to internet blues stations, no crap DJs, no crap traffic reports, just good blues all day! Bliss!
When driving the car, 6 CD changer filled with blues, no crap DJs, no crap traffic reports, etc...
When out on the bike, who needs radio when you've got an R1 and some of the best, empty roads to destroy tyres on, lol!
-
Wogan was good - and the janet and john stories usually had me crying with laughter - absolute, utter, pornographic filth first thing in the morning - got away with murder some days ;D ;D ;D
Evans used to be entertaining but he's a bit too safe and cuddly now.
cant stand ads so all local radio is out.
planet rock's on dab's ok in the summer tho if you're in the mood that early :y
mainly 5 unless they're discussing "womens issues" - nicky campbell knows how to host a debate - and theres been some barnstormers :o
-
I preferred the Light Programme as an occasional alternative to the Home Service and the Third Programme. 8-) :y

I used to go to sleep listening to Night Ride with one of those abysmal earpieces that tried to go right through your head and out the other side! Those were the days.
-
Sadly Radio 2 is still about the best of the Radio stations in my area... The indies are useless and only suitable for an occasional short break...
I think the replacement presenters show that there are no properly skilled DJ's around any more to replace the older ones as they retire. Mark Radcliffe going though has got to be a bonus, I have never liked his show and have never understood why he was given an R2 slot...

It seems you're stuck with AM out there in the sticks (or DAB) ;) - http://www.absoluteradio.co.uk/listen/
1215AM nationwide, 105.8FM around London
-
Sorry, used to like R2 a lot. GRADUAL decline??
more like steep these days.
PITY.

Always had a bit of a problem with BBC Radio, made a decision about 35 years ago that I would never listen to Radio 1 and haven’t done since, goes back to my Sound Engineering days when Radio 1 was only ever available on AM whilst 2,3 and 4 got the FM Stereo treatment.
Despite extra spectrum being made available for FM Transmissions, Radio 1 Boss’s made a statement at the time stating something like Radio 1 won’t be broadcasted on FM because their target audiences were unlikely to benefit from the improved transmission quality, think they were under the impression that their listeners all used Binatone transistor radios. Totally pissed me off at the time, so stuck to my principles.
Seem to remember Capital Radio popped up shortly after on FM in London and despite the adverts totally swept the floor with the BBC.
-
I detest Evans - one of the few instant turn off whatever people there is.
-
The problem is we are getting older and are now progressing into Radio 3 & 4 terroritry!! ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D
Around these parts our local radio station KMFM Ashford is the one I listen too!
Like Zulu though I still prefer the days of the BBC Light programme, and especially Uncle Mac on Saturday mornings! :D :D :D 8-) 8-) 8-)

I will miss stuart and mark in the evenings i like bob harris he plays both types of music county and weston lol. If you are up at the best time of day janice long is good and has some good guests and after her the dark lord alex lester is brilliant but you cant beat the old days of wogan and walker taking you to and from work. Ps. Mayo is 100x better than evans imho

My ten penth for what it is worth (Mmm - 10p probably)
I listen to radio a lot. Mainly radio 2 or 5 Live. I can't abide local radio, either too many commercials or constant inane 'talky bits', with tired format of 2 presenters trying to be cool and funny (but aren't).
I REALLY enjoy Ken Bruce, good wit as well as vast knowledge of music. I also enjoy Simon Mayo, as he has a brain and is both witty and clever. Steve Wright makes pleasant listening. Can't abide phone in programs like Vine - whats the point, "heres a bloke who thinks black is black - so heres someone else who thinks exactly the opposite, discuss". There is always two sets of people with extreme opposite views, its just cheap radio.
Alan Titmarsh on a Sunday night is also a favourite of mine.

I like Radio 4 and Wakefield FM
-
forgot to say that alan carr and melanie sykes are good on a saturday night :y

Ah! the good old Wireless (none of these new fangled transistor things, give me a chassis full of Mullard valves!)

Generally agree although I don't like Titchmarsh. Totally detest Jezza Vine, can't bear to listen to his voice regardless of the topic of conversation. I usually enjoy listening to Danielle Perry on 105.2 Kerrang (mainly rock/metal) while Jezza Vine is on :y

As a result of this thread I put Radio 2 on again this morning, firstly some inane natter about Evans buying a dvd / cd? and then there was some talk of Evans talking to someone for 2 minutes, I then remembered why I stopped listening, and pressed another button... ::)

I like the American style of radio. you just tune into a station that plays your kind of music. Rock /blues/country/jazz.....whatever you feel like listening to its there. I find it very difficult now to find any station that holds my interest for more than 10 minutes.

Actually, I minded to agree somewhat with your comment. I recently tried (via email) to get a previously unplayed piece aired and got nowhere. It does rather promote the "Golden Oldies" of classical music, but the alternative is the rather turgid Radio 3. It would be nice to have something in the middle.
