Failed the MOT yesterday - nothing catastrophic, a tyre (which I knew about), an indicator bulb with the paint coming off (even though the tester flagged it as the wrong side) ::) and headlamp aim low (adjuster doesn't appear to be broken - yet!).
Quite pleased really as it's the first time I'd put it through a test since DLK sold it to me last year.
Most interesting things though were the advisories:
- Rear tread low (4-6mm)!! No mention of the other front tyre which is the same tread depth of the failed one
- Oil leak flagged as "*DANGEROUS* - The tester advises you not to drive the vehicle" ;D It's only weeping from the crank seal and its not even enough the drip on the drive! I don't think I'll be taking my Spitfire to that testing station.....

:o So, new tyre 7-8mm, Legal limit 1.6 mm. What is "low" about 4-6mm? ;D

PMSL. Tell them it's a "continuous rustproofing system". ;D
TheBoy has one on his Omega and it got past his (very fastidious) MOT tester. :-X

I'd claim on the free twelve month guarantee that daz gives with all the cars he sells. :y

Now there's an idea!
I've been using this place for years (a local independant) and they've always been really good but I think they have a new tester. Incidently he asked me if I wanted a quote to adjust the headlight because 'these lights need to be taken out to adjust' :o...... I politely declined.
I will have a word or two when it goes back for the re-test though! (after I have the green ticket in my hand of course.....)

Fresh from the warm glow of a first-time MoT pass for my Elite on Monday, I pose this question:-
What's better MoT-wise? Lenient, lax back-street garage, or main dealer / high-street name auto-factor?
Are we fearful of being ripped-off rather more than we should be fearful of poor standards?
