I love the diversity of Britain, from the remote wildernesses to the choked conurbations. From the dialect of Yorkshire to the rhyming slang of the Cockneys. However the folk should all have the same taxation, Healthcare and so on. Part of being in Great Britain.
I don't like the ever creeping separation of the Welsh and the Scottish in particular from the English. Today the Welsh have voted Yes for more powers on local matters including Health. At the same time prescription charges are going UP in England whilst free in Scotland.
Why oh why?

if you ask me, it all went downhill after 1707 ;)

I totally agree Varche...For some reason the good people of England have to subsidise the heathens from north of the border. It's crazy... ::) ::) ::) ;)

Did it not start in 1688 with the Jacobites?

I dont buy into this "Great Britain" crap.
What is "Great" about fuel prices heading towards £7 a gallon when the North Sea is full of the stuff?
And talking of years in a historical sense, what about...
1967...
Wembley...
3-2 against the so called world champions(only thanks to a dodgy Russian linesman!) :y

I am talking about the great nation our forbears fought and in many cases died for. They didn't make those sacrifices so a Welshman can have free prescriptions but someone living in England has to pay.!
We do alright at sport given the relatively small population. We might do better if we fielded a Great Britain side rather than one from each of the principalities!!
The mismanagement of our resources like North Sea oil and selling off parts of our infrastructure are sadly down to our elected governments of the day.

Gotta say i personally like the free prescriptions in Wales and would be upset if they removed them. :D :D :D

I completely agree Varche - apart from the fact that you should be referring to the United Kingdom, rather than just GB. ;)

:y :y....................I think we are at the point where we need to decide what we all want. A UK governed by the UK government in westminster, or independence for all 4 countries and everyone govern themselves (and raise their own tax revenue) in the ways they choose.
Everyone (apart from England ) is having their cake and eating it at the moment and whichever way you look at it , it aint fair.
When I go and pay£7.20(?) for my prescription, im basically paying for mine plus someone elses somewhere else in the UK.
same for universities etc. It needs sorting.

yup £7.20 for you little Englanders, going up to £7.40 at the end of the month :y
I had to pay for a prescription while on Holiday last year....if I hadnt needed a prescription before hand, I would have when the pharmacist told me the price!

I'm inclined to agree with you A and think that Westminster should be the sole governing body.
