I have received this from my friend David and I thought you may be interested in this little piece of CONSERVATIVE policy:

Dear Elizabeth,
I'm in Cardiff this weekend with three clear messages for the party. One: thank you for everything you've done. We're in government delivering Conservative pledges - from bringing some sense to our public finances to dismantling Labour's nanny state. This wouldn't have happened without the constant work of activists up and down the country over this past year. So thank you.
Two: get ready because we've got some big elections coming up - council elections, Welsh Assembly elections, Scottish Parliament elections and of course, the AV referendum. AV is fundamentally unfair - it makes politics and politicians less accountable and it means some people's votes can count more than others. We've got to get out there, take these arguments to the country and urge them to vote no to AV.
The third message is to do with our economy. In just over two weeks, we're going to unveil the most pro-enterprise, pro-business Budget for a generation. It's going to be a no-nonsense, roll-our-sleeves up Budget in which we do everything we can to make it easier for businesses to grow, invest and take people on.
Make no mistake, I am an enterprise Prime Minister. Every summit I go to, every trip I make, every foreign leader I meet, I'm trying to drum up new trade or business for Britain. I know some people don't like me doing that. But do these critics think the Germans and the French and the Americans are all sitting at home waiting for business to fall on to their lap? Of course not. They're getting out there, and so am I.
This is an enterprise government too. Everywhere we can we're breaking down the barriers to business growth - cutting corporation tax, gripping regulation, bringing in an enterprise allowance to help those who are unemployed set up their own business. But there's so much more to do. Right now in our country there are what I would call the enemies of enterprise, whether it's bureaucrats who concoct ridiculous rules or town hall officials who take ages to make planning decisions. Believe me, we are taking them on.
Enterprise is in our party's DNA. We have always been on the side of the doers, the grafters, the entrepreneurs. They are the wealth creators and the job creators, the ones who will drive Britain's prosperity in the years to come, and that's why this government is doing everything possible to get behind them today."
Signed David Cameron

Well I will be interested to see what item 3 holds in two weeks time. It had better be good.
Petrol tax will be reduced one hopes as well.

Yes Varche during the Andy Marr Show, or was it The Politics Show (!!) show this morning there was a definite hint that the April budget will allow for what is happening with fuel prices! The Chancellor has said he has heard what people are feeling ;) ;)

I think it is best if we all work on the premise that absolute power corrupts. In truth all politicians with the possible exception of the Beast of Bolsover are all liers, cheats etc that cannot be believed. Like the last lot the Condems have also broken their promises made only a short while ago in their manifesto in order to get elected (well get into power by sharing it with Lib Dems). No they all lie.
Interestingly when you are close to lies you overlook them. Just look at Italy and their Berlesconi. Yet we from afar can see that he is a crook by any other name!

Despite having been an ardent Conservative for many years (until the last election), I view Cameron very dimly. Indeed Autonomous Mind today sums up my feelings rather well.

I think I've got more chance of going out the front of my house and sucking the Queen off than Cameron doing anything he says he's going to do. I'm sure the new budget will include an increase in fuel prices.

After what has been said today by the Chancellor I think we may have a pleasant surprise Del! :y :y :y
He says he is mindful of the national concern over fuel prices and he has taken it on board 8-) 8-)
We shall see of course! :D :D ;)

David Cameron told Al Jazeera that "it would not be in Britain’s interests to leave the EU" and that's why he will not hold a referendum. Because he thinks he knows best. And yet he caves in to Clegg to give a referendum on AV voting. So, there we have it. A referndum which no one wants (on AV), but no referendum on something many want (on the EU).
He has the audacity to say that he wants to cut down on bureaucracy, yet doesn't spot the elephant in the room - the EU. It will not even let us reduce duty on fuel unless it agrees!
The EU shamelessly provides accounts which cannot be audited as they are so dodgy. It causes tonnes of fish to discarded into the seas each year because of its daft quota systems. Yetr, it has just approved a £51million project to create a museum in Brussels to celebrate itself! Meanwhile, MEPs have voted themselves an extra EUR 3000 in secretarial expenses per month to bring their allowance to an eye-watering EUR21,200 per month (£18k). :o :o The fat cats in the EU are milking us dry, yet Cameron thinks we should be denied a vote on whether we like it or not.
Ignoring the EU and putting Huhne in charge of energy leaves me with nothing but contempt for Cameron. I reckon, by the time he's finished, he'll go down as a worse PM than Major. :( >:(

I do not need to hear what some foreign journalist states is fact about Cameron, Britain and Europe!
This is where I get my information on Conservative Policy from:
http://www.conservatives.com/Policy/Where_we_stand/Europe.aspx
...........and specifically on Europe the policy is:
"Europe
The Government believes that Britain should play a leading role in an enlarged European Union, but that no further powers should be transferred to Brussels without a referendum. This approach strikes the right balance between constructive engagement with the EU to deal with the issues that affect us all, and protecting our national sovereignty.
* We will ensure that the British Government is a positive participant in the European Union, playing a strong and positive role with our partners, with the goal of ensuring that all the nations of Europe are equipped to face the challenges of the 21st century: global competitiveness, global warming and global poverty.
* We will ensure that there is no further transfer of sovereignty or powers over the course of the next Parliament.
* We will amend the 1972 European Communities Act so that any proposed future treaty that transferred areas of power, or competences, would be subject to a referendum on that treaty - a 'referendum lock'.
* We will examine the case for a United Kingdom Sovereignty Bill to make it clear that ultimate authority remains with Parliament.
* We will ensure that Britain does not join or prepare to join the Euro in this Parliament.
* We will strongly defend the UK's national interests in the forthcoming EU budget negotiations and agree that the EU budget should only focus on those areas where the EU can add value.
* We will press for the European Parliament to have only one seat, in Brussels.
* We support the further enlargement of the EU.

Just as I thought Nick, you have simplified what Cameron actually said from 17.15 into the interview. Indeed he does support us staying in Europe ( :y :y :y) and a referendum to take us out is not required. Instead we will remain within and take part in Europe's future, but will NOT devolve any more power to Brussels without referendums to decide if it is right for British interests. So referendums are still on the agenda!
All this is FULLY in line with Conservative Policy as I published above!! ::) ::) ::) ::)

I admire some of you for having the intellect & interest in politics that i sadly? lack. I for one am sick & tired of every newly elected government blaming the previous because they can't clean up the mess that was left...then they go & add to it??? & so it goes over & over again.
We never get anywhere which is why i'm amazed some folk love politics, comment on said interviews etc. It's all a fairy tale. Your interest & concern no matter how well intended is wasted.
They have no interest in you no matter how much interest you have in them. They don't care, live well & we struggle to pay for them to cock up yet again.
If any MOD staff, medical staff, police, fire brigade put in such an abysmal performance they'd be given short thrift as we've no time for them yet over & over again "we" elect yet another a bunch of imbeciles who cost us a fortune & despite all this some folk seem to love politics...
AMAZING!!!! ::)

1) Who says it's not required? Cameron? What about the many who argue that existing powers of the EU are too great and we need to have a referendum on the subject. If Cameron is so sure it is unnecessary why doesn't he hold a referendum and hold up the massive "Yes" vote support his position. Oh, yes, it would probably be a "No" vote.
2) Since May last year, there have been five new transfers of power to Brussels - creating the European External Action Service, extending the European Arrest Warrant, increasing our EU budget contribution, EU regulation over the City, and EU oversight over British budgets.
On not one of these occasions have ministers admited that power was being transferred.
So what hope is there in a "referendum lock" that can only be triggered if ministers are prepared to admit that what their civil servants have agreed to ceded to the EU is significant?

There is a terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tireding gulf between the people and the political classes...and it appears to be getting worse not better.
It is a good excuse for withdrawing from political discusson, but such a course would let them get away with it. One day, they will realise the error of living solely in the Westminster bubble. ;)

it's alright promising a referendum before devolving any more power to brussels.
how much more power could be devolved tho?
we can barely wipe our arses without their permission now.

A long way before being elected he had stated quite clearly that a referendom was not viable due to the Labour Government signing the Lisbon Treaty. We were legally locked into it, and all he could do is promise to clamp down on the EU powers over the UK, as made clear in Conservative Party Policy as listed in my post above.
Everything will take time, as DC IS human, as is his Cabinet, and cannot perform miracles. Labour dug us in deep, so extraction to reasonable levels of EU power will not happen any time soon! ;) ;)

Its unbelievable, undemocratic and absurd that we cant vote those in power in the EU out - one of the few things DC did say he'd do was allow a referendum...which he later backed out of - i reckon an Egyptian style uprising is on the cards for Brussells if the economy across europe gets much worse :o

'kin 'ell
Nickbats right :o
Why BJ? :-? :-?
as NB says:
"The EU shamelessly provides accounts which cannot be audited as they are so dodgy. The fat cats in the EU are milking us dry, yet Cameron thinks we should be denied a vote on whether we like it or not.

But as I have stated above the Labour Government dug us in deep with the EU. It will now take time to reverse out of all the unnecesary and restrictive, unfair, and corrupted policy of the EU :'( :'( :'( :'( But we must be there to change things for a better future 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) :y

We can't. As you said, Labour signed up to the Lisbon Treaty and we are governed by that treaty and many other EU statutes. We can't change the EU as we are but a single voice among 27 and we would need if not a unanimous vote, then certainly a majority to change even the smallest thing. If you think the EU can be changed by the UK, then that is, IMHO, cloud-cuckoo land. ;)
The only option open to us is to leave. :y

AMAZING!!!! ::)
Hammer > nail, Amigo. :y :y
There is a terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tireding gulf between the people and the political classes...and it appears to be getting worse not better.
It is a good excuse for withdrawing from political discusson, but such a course would let them get away with it. One day, they will realise the error of living solely in the Westminster bubble. ;)
I hope you're right Nick, can't go on like this forever!!! ::)

it's alright promising a referendum before devolving any more power to brussels.
how much more power could be devolved tho?
we can barely wipe our arses without their permission now.
You can thank Gordon Brown and David Milliband for that one, (mainly).

......// we can barely wipe our arses without their permission now.
Therein lies the problem Egg - it's about time we 'wised-up' and reinterpreted the practical application of those remaining regulations where the option for us to do so remains.

I do not need to hear what some foreign journalist states is fact about Cameron, Britain and Europe!
This is where I get my information on Conservative Policy from:
http://www.conservatives.com/Policy/Where_we_stand/Europe.aspx
I'm just wondering if that was written while they were in opposition Lizzie as the reality of coalition government may dictate a very different policy.
We support the further enlargement of the EU
I think that aspiration simply invites difficulty.
