Title: Railway Camping Coaches
Post by: Lizzie_Zoom on 06 March 2011, 14:50:59
...............and after talking about so many road coaches on the Bus Nostalgia thread, I must post about some glorious Railway camping coaches.

A marvellous internet site gives a wonderful short description of some Southern Railway Camping Coaches of the pre WW2 years, which continued eventually on only a few sites after a re-introduction into BR days. They were a popular form of holiday base in the South West, which the Great Western Railway also provided.

On a similar note - there are a couple of old tube coaches above commercial street between whitechapel and shoreditch which I believe people actually live in. :-/

I wish I could get away with that Tunnie!! :o :o :o

The petrol alone to get to Scotland, touring around, including The Lakes, and back for the miggy would cost that! ::) ::) ::)  Then I have expensive tasted! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

Biggest cost will be petrol, I calculated it a month or two back:

Assuming MPG = 48
Price Per Litre      £1.30
Price Per Galon      £5.90

Total Camping Cost - £64.50
Total Miles - 1,695
Total Fuel Cost - £208.41
Camping Food - £35

I did say GS up the top, so yup. 48 is about worst case, I got 51 mpg when I did a 3 day blast around Wales  :y

Actually on LPG, in the Omega, cost wise it works out at about 55-60mpg  :D

Wow!! :o :o :o :o

That is a plush example!  It looks absolutely lovely, and at "£75 per person per night in the carriage" it is far cheaper than many average hotels! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) ;) ;)

Just a tad, as would any other failure. But touch wood all will be ok!
