The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority [IPSA] bought seven chairs for £538 each as part of its £300k spending spree.

Where will the waste of our money end?

The sense of entitlement is deeply imbedded I fear. ::)

On the basis that it takes one to know one I expect they'll prove to be highly effective. ;)

Sounds about right - roughly what the chairs we have here cost, IIRC (http://www.aeronchairuk.com/) .. very nice chairs, incidentally.

Or some would say - deeply seated.

I am not sure the full facts have been reported here. A lot of Govt departments are going down the route of through-life contracts for infrastructure, this may be one of those cases. Thus it may seem expensive per chair (or not, have you seen the prices in office supply catalogues recently) but if it was for a chair for 10/15/20 years then I would agrue that is may be better value for money :y
On a slightly related issue I saw a job advert for this department looking for a head of IT/Information Security manager position. They were offering £50k! In London for 2 jobs which each attract saleries nearly double that in the city! :o

Yeah - £50k seems rather cheap for an Information Security manager (with whom the buck usually stops if anything does get leaked/breached) - that's a lot of responsibility I wouldn't want for that money ;)
(Now if you doubled it, I'd consider it - but then again, I have no desire to get on the slowest train in the world into London every day ;D)

Me too, I was interesed until I saw the salary. Mind you if I was earning £80k + then I would want have my arse parked on a chair that cost at least a grand ;D ;D
