Post by: steviedingdong on 22 February 2011, 05:11:08
hi everyone,

im looking to purchase an omega in the next couple of weeks, but im unsure which model to go for.

i want one thats already on lpg, but im undecided between the elite and the MV6, and also unsure of which engine size the 3.0 or the 3.2.

any advice or help would be greatly appreciated thanks

How much ytou want to pay would give people a better idea of how to advise you.
I have found many Elite models to be in poor condition when I was looking. MV6 models depending on age can be poverty specification but can be "done up" if you have the time and inclination.
I bought MV6 seats for my last Omega, junked them after a few months as I found them uncomfortable.

Do you want performance or comfort ? MV6 should have sports suspension and bucket type seats, great if you want to "press on" I personally find Elite cloth seats to be the most comfortable, but ultimatly it is down to want you want.

Good luck and don't buy yhe first Omega you see, there are still plenty about and condition and how it has been looked after count far more than the badge.

Service History is important, especially things like when the CamBelt was last changed!

or budget for ~300 to have it changed as soon as you buy it.

i want to spend around £2.5k to £3k, i just dont know which engine is better and if there is a easy way of telling the mv6 and the elite apart, apart from the badge on the back.  :D

elite has more toys, so is heavier, so slightly worse on juice, but has softer suspension, so more comfortable
MV6 is sportier, so less comfortable and less toys - might be better on mileage, but, on the other hand, will tempt you to drive with a heavy foot, so might not be.

Most noticeable difference will be in the seats.
mv6 has sports bucket seats with an adjustable knee support (dunno what it's called). I think the elite just has standard "car seats".

BUT: they are more similar than different, and I recommend you concentrate on condition and service history than model.
A duff mv6 might be less "sporty" than a well set-up elite
A duff elite might end up with less (working) toys than an MV6, and a well-looked-after mv6 might have the toys retrofitted.
Similarly, an elite can be retrofitted with mv6 suspension and sports seats

oh - 3.0 is older than 3.2, so chances are 3.2 will be in better nick.
but not neccessarily.
bodywork and service history are the important bits - I don't think there's anything to choose between them in terms of power or maintenance issues

I'd be seeing if Danny's one is still available and keep some change in my pocket for any upgrades wanted/future servicing :y

I have had the mv6 and now proudly own the elite model for me the choice would have to be the elite model due to the interior being more plusher and also the extra mod-cons. I had mine converted to LPG back in December best move yet!!

To be perfectly honest, you have quite a specific set of requirements, and, with LPG one of them, your choice of cars will be limited by that.

For that reason, I would assess each car on its' merits (and, most importantly, the quality of the LPG conversion!) before worrying about the specific model. The main differences between the Elite and MV6 are the suspension and the interior and both can be swapped fairly easily if you decide you don't like what you've got.

Speaking personally, I much prefer the MV6 suspension and seats and don't miss the toys that the Elite has so given the choice I would pick an MV6 every time. Then again, in your position I wouldn't dismiss a nice Elite for the reasons stated above.

I would go for the Elite, and if you really want slightly sportier handling, upgrade the suspension. With your budget you should get a very nice 3.2 with lpg unless you buy from a dealer - does anyone still do that ?
