I heard a police chopper hanging about close by just now and I opened the front door to see where it was and then witnessed a glowing green light moving quickly down to the ground. It faded to nothing, so I reckon it was a small fragment of space dust or similar. It wasn't high in the sky like a "shooting star" which grazes the atmosphere, but was definitely headed on an earthward trajectory; in fact I thought it was a flare when I first noticed it.
There you go. My excitement for the evening! :y

It'll have been a leftover from someones 'Brocks Benefit' Nick, either that or someone fired a dud SAM at the FuzzBudgie ;D

At 7:23 we saw the International Space Station and the Space shuttle Challenger traverse from West /South West to the South.
Two small white spots moving across the sky :-/

Yep, Mike, I got an email alerting me to that from Spaceweather.com but sadly I didn't read it until 9.30. :'(

Well, Myself, the wife and our three year old were all stood outside the front of our house in coats, hats, gloves, looking skywards!
I saw them first , two small white spots moving rather quickly. Wife was a little disappointed, daughter wanter to play on her slide and climbing frame (got very upset when we went back inside). I still found it very impressive when considering what you were looking at.

sounds like a meteorite Nick, the green light may be traces of copper on the surface of it burning up through the atmosphere :y
or a ufo ;)

Did wonder if it was Discovery until I checked. Undocked from the ISS yesterday but not due back until tomorrow.
I saw one of the Shuttle launches a couple of years back. Was camping and went out for a pee at some ungodly hour in the morning. As I walked back across the camp site I saw a bright object climb up from the Western horizon, break into two, and continue up until almost overhead.
Wondered what it was and when I got back home found a youtube video of exactly what I'd seen, from the same time, taken by a group of astronomers. It was the launch of STS-128.

Indeed, it was around about quarter-past ten. Can't be anymore precise than that with the time. :y

According to the sizzling soaraway Sun "a lorry sized asteroid skimmed past Earth yesterday at less than a third of the distance of the moon". If you can believe the Sun (about anything) maybe that is what it was.
