Title: Prince Andrew: Ass or asset?
Post by: Banjax on 07 March 2011, 10:11:31
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12662458

methinks the government will be swayed by the screaming tabloids on this one, but is he more valuable to those in business who like to be seen hanging out with royalty? or are we past all that now in an era where even the middle east is tearing down the concept of a ruling elite?

i've no doubt DC will see it as a no-brainer populist move to get shot of him tho  :o

Yes, as an institution I think the monarchy is largely an irrelevance now.

Insofar as Prince Andrew is concerned he is not only a poor ambassador for that institution but, more importantly, for this country. [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

Asset. People buy from people. In the eyes of other countries without our wonderful heritage he is a good ambassador.

How many of us check the person we are dealing with is a xxxx? This is just the tabloids making money by running someone down at as is usual nowadays the expense of Britain.

I do think our ambassadors need to be careful. DC visiting the middle east drumming up arms business and then in the same breath condemming the Arab world despots. The very same despots we educated and trained and groomed .

If we don't get the contracts some other country will.

I tend to agree with Varche, whatever we think of the royals at least Prince Andrew works for his dosh, and rightly or wrongly "HRH" on an invite will get bums on seats and open doors for trade, plus he can float above any political disagreements......he should chose some of his friends more carefully, but i would find it odd that he isnt advised by his staff or the government who he should or shouldnt be seen with.

Unless he tells them to ferk off after they pushed that lovely "commoner" Koo Stark out in favour of that odious, grasping tart Fergie  :y

I always thought that certain contractual enhancements were specifically designed for that purpose à la BAE (and many others) - no?

If not, it shows the shallowness of some of the species should they be motivated by such personalities.

Especially with the Royal Families of the Middle East! :y :y :y

He is, along with the Royal Family overall, a very big asset to this country, and a cheap one to run verses the income they attract into the country 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

I would tend to agree there but, on the times that I have been in his company (and that has been a few, over the years...) he is a very difficult individual to get along with on a 'professional' level.  :-X

Just like his Paw....   :-X  :-X

But well meaning, of that there is little doubt.

You've no need to say that twice.

The mere mention of the name and that of his former spouse had many of us wondering what we could do to avoid the experience.

In general Royal visits were a pain in the arse for those who had to not only stand between them and their adoring subjects on the day but more so in the hours and days beforehand finalising security arrangements.

The camp followers were the most difficult to deal with however as they frequently showed annoyance when it rapidly became apparent to them that they were mere lackeys and of little concern in the bigger picture of the security operation.

At least he knows how to enjoy himself. Charles was born old & Edward is just a useless sap. As for said issue i've no idea so won't comment, i could'nt care less either way, only commented at all because i've heard it over & over again on the truck wireless today.

Is it of any real significance?  Do they care what we think? ::)

I see where you are coming from.  Not that I have any professional knowledge of this but my thoughts are; how much/little involvement HRH had in the decision.;) ;) ;) :-X. if you take my meaning.

I think a consideration which needs to be taken is that as the further away from being directly in line to the throne a "Royal" becomes the less security checks implemented and therefore becomes more like the rest of us mere "mortals" (only a thought), H21 and Zulu77 can correct if wrong.

But I would bet £ to a 1p there is going to be a rethink.

To the main point in question: as its been mentioned "if he  can open closed doors"  more the better and is definitely an asset on "UKPLC" balance sheet :y :y.

According to the press reports I have read recently, Andrew is a close friend of a convicted child molester and has remained friends with him even after he was released from prison.
The person concerned paid off some of sarah fergusons debts a few days after one of Andrews visits to him.
One report said that Andrew often recieved massages from females at the home of this person. One of the girls who was questioned about the activities at the persons home was asked if she had sexual relations with Prince Andrew while she was under age. She pleaded the fifth amendment.
The person who procurred the under age girls for this person was Ghislaine Maxwell - daughter of the late Robert Maxwell.
Peter Mandelsons name has also popped out of the woodwork in this scandal, as it always seems to when there is the mixture of wrongdoing and very rich people involved. The persons phone contacts revealed several contact details for Mandelson including his private and official numbers. He also had Tony Blairs official number.
Its not yet( and maybe never will be ) clear exactly how big the fire is, but theres a hell of a lot of smoke. ;)

Albs, I think I've changed my mind, I don't think for a minute Prince Andrew gets up to anything dodgy, but he does seem to favour the company of some seriously dodgy people....unbelievably Prince Phillip probably would be a better choice  :o
