are they any good?

Yes

Yes
Quite good. ::) ;D

Worth deciding what you want and doing your homework first. As with all of these places the staff can vary from helpful to chocky fireguard and a lot of their products are end of line, but if you go in knowing exactly what you want you can sometimes get a bargain.

Yes
Indeed they are. I called them and they were very helpful 8-)

I find them to be pretty awful, but that might be my local mob. Old, end of line stuff, sold at John Lewis prices.
The kids who work there are only interested in the chav stuff.
-
You got the right shop? :-? John lewis prices? :-?
-
yes - the edinburgh one i found helpful and knowledgeable :y

Its been about 10 years since I bought loads of stuff for this house (moved in 11 years ago). Its all still working fine.
At the time of purchase they were very competitive and when a surround sound amp , that I had ordered was out of stock I suggested they supply a more expensive one at the lower price - they did.
That was all on-line.

Staff at the london bridge shop are great. Prices are very competitive too. Have bought loads of stuff from them over the years.
-
Never had a problem with there equipment and not everything is end of line well worth a look
-
Beware, a lot of thier stuff is euro import (quite a bit has a convertor plug on the mains lead).
This can make a difference as soem items are UK 'tuned'
-
i bought my cambridge system from them and wharfedale speakers and was well pleased to buy the same stuff here would have costed me double, but as everyone says do your homework on what you want and then look to them for a price.

got my gale gold speakers in glasgow branch very happy with them(6 years ago mind)

Two far superior to lcd plasma TV's, two sets of home cinema speakers, home cinema amp, DVD recorder, sub woofer. :y
10day return policy, 2year extra warranty thrown in, best prices I could find for what I wanted.
No complaints here. :y

...and those that put science over results. :P
All that aside, plasma gives a better picture, it just does!
I dont doubt your technical knowledge for one moment of course. I just don't like LCD picture quality. Seeemples. ;)

It pains me to agree with Hornby Man, but he is right, LCD is the superior technology, has been for a few years now...
-
Yes. That's why Plasmas still look better :P

But inferior picture IMO. ;)

Not seen a plasma that gets anywhere near a modern decent LCD :-/
There was a time when plasmas were better (when new - they degrade too quickly), but that was a few years back now. Plasmas party piece was blacks. LCDs have long since surpassed this now.

Could have had LCD, and looked long and hard, every single one looks like that blue screen effect you get when they shhot an actor on a blue screen and impose it in a background, they just look odd. Messed about with settings in shops, spoke to salesmen, had demo's.
Plasma for me thankyou.
-
i'm with plasma - richer, deeper, warmer picture than any lcd i've ever seen :y
-
I'm backing up the plasma team, but you need a good quality one though, my Panasonic beat the LCDs and the Samsung plasmas hands down :y

Carn't fault my 40" lcd....a few months old now....first tv ive actually left on default settings (did have have a play about with the settings but decided the defaults were best) Only slight criticism, it takes it a few minutes to work out best settings (ambience sensor) so pic looks a bit dark when you first turn it on.....and also it wont let you access the tv listings until its checked the connection with the surround sound (a couple of seconds)
But then it is a gay Sony ::) ::)
Oh and back on topic....the surround sound its connected to did come from Richer Sounds.....about 10years ago......i remember they price matched and beat it by a few quid from a deal i'd seen on a internet site :y
-
richer like others said some good stuff if you know what your after
iv had some good deals butthen a m8 is a manager at one so give me his staff discount
i hate plasma as personaly i found it to atifichal looking for movies
and lcd had the graying problem on black and as a sifi fan hated it
but the newer lcds are great
but if i was going for a flat panal i would go for LED
but im mostly into frount projection and have been for a few years
so run a full HD projector
