Title: mobile data

been mentioned before but where i dont know..

at the moment i have autodata on disc/hardrive of an old desktop computer in my garage.

this service is now offered "on line".

also there are other sites which are just as useful.

no phone line is available, so whats the best way of tinternet access.

i have a samsung wave phone with plenty of data included in the priceplan..

or should i spend some money on a plug in thingy..

any other options..

(local wifis are secure ::))

Do samsung provide any utilities to use the phone as a modem when its connected to the pc via usb cable?

Well...if it connects at 3G and you want to use your data allowance....then thats the best your going to get....a 3G usb dongle isnt going to go any faster  :y

TBH i have a voodoo 3G dongle for my netbook and its acceptable fast enough  :y

many thanks taxi driver.

just tested it on the lappy and as you say, the speed is quite manageable. just done this message with a delay of a couple of seconds for the page to load :y

The data provided on your plan is purely for use on the phone.  Tether it to a PC, and your service provider will take a dim view. It will be in the T&Cs that you are not allowed to do that ;)

and no matter what you try, its very easy for an operator to work out its tethered  ;)  :y

As long as the data isnt hammered and just used for web browsing, i wouldn't have thought the operator would, either notice or be bothered. :-/
