i have taken the hardrive out of my laptop. so how do i retreave all the files from it and put them on my pc???
-
you will need to get somesort of adaptor - either 2.5" to 3.5" ide and do it all internally, or a multi ide to USB adaptor would allow you to plug them into any usb port.
(assuming your harddrive is IDE, if it is SATA, then you would need SATA eqivalent)
take it to your local maplin or similar if your not sure, they will identify it and sell you the relavent adaptor.

Is it SATA or ATA?
You can get external 'caddies' for both drive interfaces, just plug it in to the USB port and you're away.

thank you very much.
have about 10gb of music i want to get off there. and the odd film or two ::) ;)

You can get external caddies that you just drop the drive into if it's SATA: http://www.maplin.co.uk/sata-hard-drive-usb-docking-station-222999
To tell the difference - IDE drives will have two rows of pins on the end (40 pins, IIRC, or it might be 44 on 2.5" drives) while SATA drives have two flat 'blade like' connectors on the end, one narrow and one wide.
Maplin also list an IDE caddy, but it's unclear whether it fits 2.5" IDE drives or just 3.5".
