Title: Big Thanks to Mark DTM
Post by: Jimbob on 20 March 2011, 21:35:27
Been up in Nottingham for the week, and huge thanks to Mark for a few jobs on the car...

I now have shiny new shocks and springs at the front (gen VX LSC items) to match the rear.....Have to have a trip to Bolton this week now and get her set up, much better ride now, it had one aftermarket shock, which was a little on the tired side, and one original, which was virtually dead.

He also got to the bottom of my very dodgy bonnet catch - despite our previous best efforts, it remained a 2 person job to open the bonnet, Mark cleaned off the pin, and removed some burrs, which gave an improvement, then 'mended' the bottom spring, by welding in replacement metal where it had worn, and straigtened it where it had been damaged by over pulling in the past (a temporary job till I buy a new bottom spring, but at least we've proved where the problem was, and I can now open the bonnet single handedly.  :D

And last, but not least, he soldered in an autodim mirror. Wow, never used one before, and the drive home in the dark was so much more pleasant with no glare from behind, I has always assumed they only dimmed uber-bright lights, but no, any headlights get dulled.  I'd always ummed and ahhed about this, but the glare seemed to have got worse lately so decided to go for it.  Wish  I had done it years ago.

And of course, thanks again for your Hospitality Mr and Mrs DTM, much appreciated, we all had a very good weekend.  :y

I dont....but I know a man who does, and he did mention a maint guide...

From what I watched, you remove the easy end so thats free...

and the end you cant see underneath, was basically held in place with an arrangement like mountain bike brake caliper which you had to negotiate out blind.

Ive got the part number in my wallet if you want that - the top spring comes in at just £1, so cant see it being much more than that.

Yes please, it will help being able to see the other end, fighting blind otherwise. No rush though it's on the other car.  :)

Glab its better as a result.

I will order a spring today and carry out a (needless) replacement on my Omega and create a how to.

Its not to hard to change (and easier if the rad cover comes off!).
