Title: Tyres...price of...
Post by: Mysteryman on 21 March 2011, 19:37:08
The price of everything seems to be going through the roof: I needed a couple of tyres for my zaffy so went on the kwik fit website. Conti Premium whatever were £123 each, but got a deal by booking an appointment for Thursday and paying in advance..£83 each. Not bad, I thought.

While I was there, I thought I'd have a look what an omega would cost me. Jeeeez! Expensive.

Then I thought I'd have a look at what my old MGZT (225/45/18Z) would cost now. £960 for 4 ;D ;D

You are, as always, correct Mark. 205 it is.

As for it being a bit pricey, It was about the best I could find, taking into account kwik fit is five mins away and will be deadly quiet on Thurs morning.

Put it this way, I paid 82 for contis on mine and they are the 17 inch ones.....plus they were fitted by an outfit where they are likely to get it right (unlike Kwik Shite lol)   ;D ;D ;D

Yes and the 17's are lower profile so more pricey anyway.

Your best bet would have been to call a local outfit, get a quote and then tell them how much Kwik Fit are doing them for.

It does show rather well what an absolute RIP OFF Kwik Fit are though, the original price is madness!

I'm gonna start again.

Tyres are quite expensive/not so dear/cheap as chips these days, aren't they? ;D

EDIT: And I've paid for the rather things now. :-X

how many people actually buy tyres that properly suit their manner of driving and desired annual mileage?

i got the 205/55/16 winters for my bora off ebay, £60 for a set of 4 thanks to 2 disgraceful adverts, 2 kleber kristals that are on the back since i dont know the brand, and 2 michelin alpins for the front :y

all 4 fitted at local tyre place for £30

Local dealers always beat the big chains IMHO.  They are simply geared to covering marketing budgets and catering for fleets (at a huge discount that you won't get privately).   :y

They seem to charge around £12  a tyre to fit your own around here. I fit my own tyres to the car and the bike nowadays. ;)

I allways ring round for a price, but the cheeky bugga's try to find your best price before they bother with a quote.

Interesting how good the prices get when you make it up as you go along like they do.   ::)
