Title: Road pricing
Post by: miggy on 26 May 2007, 23:49:08
Watching a program today on road pricing, tell me to sod off if its been done.

There were some right pratts on there saying how good it would be, I cannot mention everything they said but it got my back up

I would like to put those dicks into one exhaust fume filled room and shut the door.

Like everything else, it will be good for a few, but bad for most. It will be interesting to see if, when its introduced, as it surely will be, the road fund license is scrapped.

Hmmm...its a problem, but its gonna happen. People are, of course, going to demand that their bosses or their customers pay it, or try and put it on their expenses. It will probably mean that prices will spiral across the board. Then the smug non-drivers, who are all for it at the moment, might see it wasn't such a good idea after all.

Are we really that easy? Call the French what you like but the government just wouldn't get away with it over there. If enough people refuse to pay it, it wont work.

The one thing that strikes me about the proposed road pricing scheme is all the problems in implementing and enforcing it.

For example, how will it work for traders, and other people who are in and out of different cars everyday?

Will people going below the speed limit (especially on motorways) be charged more for causing more congestion? And likewise what about bad driving, surely another cause of congestion?

There must be many more flaws I can't think of off the top of my head, so why is the government so adamant about bringing it in?

They want to get us back for the poll tax co*k up, and it will be another co*k up, at our cost.

There will be revolts over road pricing - can't see any need for it though. But I rarely go to London.

Pool Tax in theory was a good idea, but a local income tax would be fairer, council tax is very unfair.

I WILL NOT have any road pricing cr*p fitted to my car. >:(

This is the biggest flaw in the plan. How exactly are they going to install and manage a network of tens of millions of black boxes? With the government's track record of managing IT projects? Total overkill. ANPR cameras by the side of selected roads will tell them all they need to know. But fitting black boxes gives them your b@lls in a vice and whenever they feel like giving the handle another turn they will. How long before they start using them to gain evidence of speeding, etc?

Problem is, some greedy entrepreneur has sold this idea of a black box in every car to the government and they've stupidly fallen for it.

Well, they'll fit one to my cars over my dead body. If they do manage it, they might find it's a bit unreliable  ::)  :-X
