Title: I Hate British Gas
Post by: I_want_an_Omega on 30 March 2011, 13:56:13
On saturday I made an on-line appointment for them to come a fix my heating which has an iffy wall thermostat.

It was for today between 08:00 and 13:00. They have sent me 2 reminder emails and txt messages to remind me to be in. So I take the day off, and had scheduled some Omega tinkering for this afternoon  :y

So, @ 12:55 I call and ask where the engineer is.

"its an afternoon appointment" they say. No it isn't I say and read the email to them. They check further - which takes 15 mins and come back and say that the engineer has rescheduled the job to this afternoon.

Thanks a blooming bunch.

So, no tea for him when/if he arrives and a complaint into the system methinks.

Why do these useless organisations keep doing this to us  >:(

Rant over  ::)

You should be covered by Swale Heating!!

Stayed in for a annual gas safety check.  Waited and waited; AM went even though the appointment was for AM, so at about 1415 phoned Swale.

"Where is the engineer?"  "Oh, let me just check"  She comes back to the phone and states "he called this morning"  "No he didn't!!" I say. " Right, let me just check with the engineer" she says.

She comes back, "yes, you are having your bathroom refurbished, and there was a young girl with glasses in the front room.  A Miss Reynolds signed the paperwork"

I answer "No!!  First of all we are all having our bathrooms refurbished in the block, and I haven't a young girl with glasses in my flat as I am alone and aged 57!!  In addition there is no one here by the name of Reynolds!!"

"Oh, so sorry he appears to have gone somewhere else!!" was her answer.  Well yes, that seems to be the case!" I answer.  A new appointment is made for a guaranteed time, which is eventually kept to.

But within days of the phantom visit I have received a Gas Inspection Certificate made out for my address, but signed by the tenant "Reynolds"!!

These gas companies employ monkeys I'm afraid, and British Gas is no different to Swale Heating, or...................!! ::) ::) ::) >:(

Idiots!! >:( >:( >:(

Thats precidely why I fix my own heating. A wall stat is less than 15minute job...

Mental note to replace the dodgy motorised valve and un-bodge our heating system before the summer. I suspect, come better weather, Mrs. KW won't take kindly to finding out that the HW only heats up when the CH is on, as she steps into the shower one morning. ::)

About 90mins if you take the time to flush the system through a couple of times whilst draining it.

When I last did mine, I put some cleaner through the system for about a month before :y

Also, screwfix used to sell a Central Heating 'pack' (valve, stats, programmer) for only a couple of quid more than the valve. Always handy to have spares in case Mrs TheBoys folks central heating goes on the blink

what would the shareholders think if British Gas started throwing money at proper customer service? They'd be up in arms  :y

Tell Sid your woes Liz  ;)

Or about 20mins if its just the syncron motor gone....or 30mins if its the head failed.  :y

I wont subscribe to these naff maintenance plans as they dont 'maintain' your system and the 'service' they are supposed to do every year is a bloody joke.

The microswitch is prone to sticking. Think I repaired it previously when the nasty plastic mechanism broke, so may be related. Don't think the head is removable on this one (13 year old ACL Drayton). Will have to have a look and see what's going on. I suspect either a repair or replace the whole valve with one that is of a better quality.

The last BG service engineer that came out to me is a member on here, Batt66, he's got an MV6.

Did a good job.

Have to put my two pennath in here up until two years ago i was a british gas engineer, The engineer can only do the jobs in the order he has been given them he cannot change an am to a pm, That has to be done by the office, so don't moan at the engineer he is allways on the front line,
When i started on BG customers came first but not any more each engineer is monitored on first time fix how many upgrades/any products in fact he is no longer an engineer he has to be a salesman also, If they told you am and he came p m you can claim £10 as a broken promise, :(
