Title: OOF at its best
Post by: kingycos2 on 31 March 2011, 11:16:16
Last week I put a wanted add for some facelift Elite wheels, within a day I had a PM from dieseld4 saying he had a set and we agreed a price. His description was spot and he organised a courier to deliver as he lives in Ireland. I paid via bank transfer and with not knowing the guy or and knowledge of him, I was of course dubious. He told me he had received payment on Saturday afternoon, then yesterday the wheels turned up, exactly as described and well wrapped.
Gareth (deisel4) did exactly what he offered to do. Good to see genuine service and a helpful OOFer, Beats ebay for sure....  :y

Thats good news.

I sent a DIS pack to a member for free (and even paid the postage), not so much as a 'thanks' or an 'its arrived'.

I seem to recall you lent a member some spring compressors on the assumption they would be returned promptly  :-[, PM me when you're around

I advised and helped a member (via a series of PM,s) acouple of years ago to get what they were entitled to, which added to their bank account by several thousand quid. Im still waiting for a PM to say" thankyou". :(

I too have recieved a great deal of help from the forum over the years.

I'm conscious that members on here give what help they can out of the goodness of their own hearts - and in particular with service work (AndyB and Elite Pete being the most recent examples of sterling service) charged less than to do work on my Omega than what it would've cost me to buy-in parts/fluids alone.  And I shudder to think what a garage would charge to do the jobs - and I very much doubt the majority of garages would have the same level of knowledge of the car as the true enthusiasts on this forum!

Saying "Thanks", or posting a message of thanks on this forum, in recognition of the efforts and endeavours of members of this forum costs nothing - and I always make sure I do so.  :y

Cheers Albs  :y

It does take a special kind of person to sacrifice their weekends, free time, and family time to help out a fellow member.

I've been a member on many forums over the years, and this one really is something special.

On other car forums (depending on whatever motor either me or the wife have had - and I've had more motor's than I've had hot dinners! - before I became obsessed with Omega's obviously :D), I've posted questions, and have gone days - even weeks - before getting an acknowledgement or reply, if even at all.

On here, there's many a time I've posted a question, and within a matter of minutes it's been replied to - sometimes 2 or more members posting the same reply within the same time (then later apologising for being too slow at typing  ;D)

I do personally try to help out other members with their queries/requests for help whenever I can, but my mechanical knowledge of the complexities of Omega's is still quite limited indeed  :-[  (However, if anyone wanted any info/help on a Cav SRi with the 2.0SEH lump, I'd be the first to jump in!  My first motor, and my first love! ;D)

To all the regular posters/helpers on here, you should truly be proud of the work you put in to make this the community it is, and the fact that you help keep many an Omega on the road which otherwise would be scrapped due to excessive garage charges for the input/work which you give/do that keeps them going for a fraction of the cost owners would otherwise face.

And to the mere plebs of the forum, such as me, posting a quick message to say "ta" goes a looong way  :y
