"Royal Navy personnel taking part in the Libyan intervention and soldiers fighting in Afghanistan will be told next week that they could be sacked under defence cuts, The Daily Telegraph can disclose."

I think you got much of the same Manta - only with the confused, unrealistic nature of LD politics thrown in as a bonus.

Mix those politics with those of a confused, untried and trying hard to be something they're not Conservative Party - under a less than convincing leadership - and you have the perfect coalition government that's well suited to playing in the rank and file section of the EU Orchestra.

The seldom played signature piece of this orchestra?

I still don't understand why the obsession with such deep and quick cuts? The Tories seem to love to act brave with stuff that doesnt affect them, and how will the deficit be reduced without growth? Make all the cuts you like but if the economy isn't growing we'll just be spinning our wheels.

Massive investment in public spending is the sure fire way out, massive public sector cuts didn't work in Ireland too well, and it'll be disastrous here. Now you can't tell me the tories dont know this? So all your left with is the dawning realisation that these cuts aren't fiscal they're ideological - watch which areas are worst affected and ask yourself wheres the tory vote there (if any)  :o

I've come to the conclusion that there is no answer. You can fiddle about with the economy all you like, but these things usually sort themselves out for no apparent reason.
The incumbents generally take the credit and breathe a sigh of relief but, in secret, wonder how the break it happened. ;D
