Having a bit of a tidy, and want to clean some coal ;D ;D ;D as daft as that sounds..
We have one of these electric fire, with a pile of real coal for decoration in front of it, which is dusty as hell.
Anyone ever cleaned it up before?
Is water gonna leave it looking grey :-/
Any hints and tips? Anyone?
:y

Ideas so far...
Water
Hoover
Airline
old rag
-
Airline, worked with a dry brush to get into the nooks and crannies, then olive oil wiped sparingly to bring up a shine.
-
I`ve got one here at the new "Deb`s Towers".......It has real-anthracite as the coal "effect":
I tipped the coals into a washing up bowl with a hot solution of 'Stardrops', then rinsed and dried them off on a clean tea-towel....afterwards, they shone like new (well, as well as any 50,000 year old item could!) ;D
-
Cheers all, Airlines done the trick nicely :D

My brother would know, he used to be in the army.

Are you one sad bugger or what? not only do you have the bad taste to have an electric fire with a pile of coal in front of it for 'decoration' you havent got the wit to rinse the dust off it under the tap like any 5 year old would do faced with the same situation. If that were not bad enough, you also feel the need to broadcast your ineptitude and seek advice on how to remove the dust of coal from a bunch of car enthuisasts ::) Please tell me this is some sort of April fool joke, or if it isnt please delete my account or ban me or whatever :y

If he,s posh enough to want clean coal - ::) ;D - dont get on your high horse about it, just read something that you find more interesting - or leave. ::)

How about baby oil ;D I read about it on here being used to shine up all of the black plastic bits under the bonnet so I tried it and it works :y

1, rinse coal in white spirit
2, spray with a fine mist of turps
3, sit back, light fire & kiss your arse goodbye :y

Just do James what they did with the coal in the tenders of the steam locomotive that was to pull the Royal Train; paint the coal white! :D :D :D ;)
It will look very Regal in your front room :y :y
