...Yet another disturbing instance of this was the announcement tucked away in George Osborne’s Budget that he will impose a “£16 a ton floor price for carbon”, a measure seemingly so arcane that no one has really bothered to spell out its implications.
What it means is that for every ton of CO2 emitted by British industry, and by our electricity companies in particular, we shall all indirectly have to pay what is in effect a hidden tax of £16, rising over the next nine years to £30.
Last year, the coal-fired power stations which supply nearly a third of our electricity used 40 million tons of coal, each emitting up to 2.9 tons of CO2. For this 116 million tons, we shall see nearly £2 billion added to our electricity bills.
The same tax on gas will add a further £1 billion to our bills, thus increasing them by a total of £3 billion a year, rising to £5 billion by 2020. This will add more than 25 per cent to the price we presently pay for electricity, or £200 a year for every household.
...What has also shocked British industry is that we will be the only country in the world that has to pay this new tax, thus eroding our competitiveness still further.

Should this be implemented without challange would be a disgrace.
Along with the roll-out of 'smart meters', this is another indication of how the lunatics have indeed taken over the asylum.
It's a bloody disgrace.

much as i hate ever increasing fuel bills, we've shown little inclination to adjust our behaviour towards using up dwindling fossil fuel resources, don't expect fuel costs to go anywhere but up unless we drastically cut use - businesses too, have to find more efficient ways of working or die.
we cant go on with our heads in the sand much longer - with every increase and "carbon tax" the voices against grow less, eventually we'll accept it - 2 years ago while filling up at less than 90p a litre you'd have laughed at the idea of paying £1.40, now its the norm and we're heading to £2 in the next couple of years :o

or they'll get more efficient and use less, time to pay for the fossil fuel party we've all been enjoying and benefitting from for over 100 years, we have no divine right to be at the top of the industrial heap, civilisations ebb and flow, if it didn't we'd all be speaking Italian :y

Oh, I see. So, in your world BJ, we should just roll over and let the developing countries have their turn, while we sit in the corner, getting poor and hungry, just to pay penitence for our evil past,eh?

fact is NB, the west won't suffer - we'll always be richer, we'll always use more resources. and when we run out we'll invade or steal them - have no fear Nick, the west will be the last place on earth to feel the effects of the end of the oil era :y
but i am truly fascinated by your world view that we're somehow better than others - as a religious man, how do you square that away with your beliefs? :o

They may have been interesting to start with BJ but they have now become very tedious and I just do not care what Nick's aims are!! Let those aims go elswhere for all I care!! I do not like anyone being insulted just because their views happen to not conform to someone else's views! ::) ::) ::)

but i'll try and tone down the sarcasm, hows that - NB's entitled to his opinion if he thinks i spout twaddle thats fine by me, personally i find his words open-minded, clever, fair and free of bias and generally humanitarian - in fact, between you and me i've put a word in with her maj - mums the word tho :y

Always think how members who have only recently joined or have not much experience on a forum like this, read into the responses on these threads.

i prefer to think of it as friendly banter examining a topic from many angles :y
