Title: Showing my age and qute proud of it....
Post by: hotel21 on 08 April 2011, 22:57:07
Me and her are at our tin tent at the seaside, dinner is done, and now relaxing with some 'strong spirits' as is said up this way after doing a scan of the freeview channels. Lo and behold - Neil diamond in concert!  Not every misic fans idea of wonderful but easy on our ear, even though his age is showing.

Chill.......    8-)

1977, "Glad you're here with me tonight"; "God only knows";
"Once in a while"; "Let me take you in my arms again"; "As if"; "Lament in D Minor" & a few other good 'uns. All of them quite apt for you, your good Lady wife & life in General tonight H! ;D ;) :y

Conway Twitty is where it's at!

"Vanning" can be a civilised affair & as said you don't need to go far to be in another world but with all the home comforts around you. I'm looking forward to spending a few days in my little Elddis @ the Cleethorpes Transport Extravaganza this coming BH weekend.

A few days in the van in a field with good mates, food, drink & surrounded by classic cars...my nirvana! :y

Just hope there's no fisticuffs this year. :(

I get 50mpg when I go camping & touring on mine, I also don't hold anyone up or any damage to the roads  :)

Tad more economical than burger van holding up 100's of cars getting about 15mpg  ;)

One assumes you travel at the speed limits set for the road you are on. When towing my caravan I do the same. On a national speed limited road .. You are limited to 60 mph, I am limited to 50 mph and an HGV (over 7.5 tonnes) is limited to 40 mph. I strongly suggest therefore .. that the queue of "100's of cars" (and I've never seen one of them travelling at the national sped limits) is probably an HGV and NOT a caravan ???

One also assumes you pass such inane comments to all HGV drivers you meet ??? At least I hope you do as they might well "correct" your attitude. .. :)

Highway code ... section 124 and as you probably don't have a copy ...

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_070304

:)

HGV has a purpose, that's delivering/picking up something. They also weigh 40 ton, so I have no issues with them doing 40 mph.

50mph for C'vans is achievable on large road, but in real twistie roads, North Wales, Yorkshire Dales, I've been stuck behind caravans barely doing 30mph, luckily I was on the bike so could easily pass.

You've been "stuck" behind caravans on minor roads but were able to pass easily...

Television is banned from ours... We listen to the radio, play board games, eat and drink and occasionally talk to each other ::)

Hopefully we'll get some use from it this year, although that will depend on the hospital :'(

Caravans are a required evil, in many ways.  Not everyone can put a tent to use due to family numbers and the like.  Some have an aversion to sleeping on the ground.

Some folks put their 'van on a seasonal pitch (as we do) so its there from Easter to November and nowhere near a road inbetween.  Saves spending over 100 grand on a 'permanent' chalet/lodge type thing thats got a lifespan of 30 years then needs replacing.

Do you complain about horseboxes, cattle floats and other similar being towed around the lanes and backroads?  Builders trailers being hauled by underpowered Transits?

Yes, 'vans can be a problem to the uneducated/narrow of mind, especially those of sufficient means that think that such a holiday is beneath them and that money is better spent travelling abroad a couple of times each year.

Ultimately, each to their own.   :y

And we like ours, so there!   :P

I used to love staying in my aunties van in Chester when I was a kid. It just seems like too much hassle to me now.
There are loads of my/friends and neighbours who have them at Bridlington and about the East Coast. They always look knackered when they come back. ;D

Most tenters who hate vans hav'nt tried them. I've tried both & a van is so much less bother, packing, putting it up, taking it down etc. Still got perfectly good tins of soup/beans, crockery/cutlery, gas & leccy kettles, toaster, fridge, oven, stove, radio/cd freeview telly all built in, cosy double bed ready in seconds, no need to pack/unpack & i store it foc on my own land.
Sometimes on hot summer meets it's nice to have a midday snooze in front of the fan & some time alone.

Not so easy crawling around on your hands & knees in a sweaty tent with all your junk everywhere.

break that for a game of soldiers!!!!! 8-)
