No doubt that she has singing talent mate. Not much artistic talent though imo. A boring song which is rescued by her voice.
For me, I like to listen to music which can give me goosebumps, uplift the spirit, or even make me cry. Almost all of the music which can do that was made between the 1920,s and the mid 1970,s.
The only thing which has improved since imo is the production techniques, but very little which really comes from the heart of the artist, which for me is what its all about.

I agree that this is a Fantastic Tune & a Classic that will never grow old, also that Nilsson's version is better but there is not many who better an original :)

I get sick of hearing this song tbh, but its probably thgreatest love song ever written imo. Particularily if you know the story behind it. You can hear the sheer,genuine desperation in his voice.

Nillsons version wasnt the original. ;) Badfingers was the original.
I think we have all got a bit blase about Layla over the years because it has had so much airplay. But when it first came out and I first heard it, the emotion was so raw it was almost too painful to listen to.

Two different versions of the same song again, but both by the same person many years apart. In the first its quite raw again, because hes singing about Patti Harrison (Layla) again.
The second is 25 years or so later, and is a more polished and accomplished performance, but I think I prefer the first.

Think that was two or three years ago now :-/ Couldn't tell you if her last album was released before or after treatment. :-/
There is some pretty good music coming out of north america at the mo imho. I occasionally listen to Canadian web radio whilst int'office.
Never seem to find what I've heard in HMV though. :-/
