Title: Films...Tron
Post by: feeutfo on 07 May 2011, 09:58:42
On BluRay last night. Loved it. Loads of basy effects and sound track really gave the speakers a work out. ....  Picture was good too.  ;D

Looking forward to Transformers 3. I love all the sic fi stuff personally, but any big blockbuster will do. Can't be arsed with comedies for some reason.
If it doesn't give the home cinema a work out then....naah.  ;D

Any other recommendations.?

Yes, Shooter is good, but I'll trump that with Heat, old, but Al pachino and Robert Deniro, and a cracking gun battle that rattles the windows. :)

The yam is plenty good enough IMO. Hd will kick the tubes arse though. If that bothers the individual is another story of course.  :y

Effects like that who needs a story...? A story that I much prefer to, say, Meet the fockers, or something about Mairy etc, yuk!

Independence day... Didn't strike me tbh. Maybe I'll give it a re run.

Both Iron man films get thumbs up from me. Only transformers 1+2 is better, and 3 is out in June. :y

I tried an Onkyo 7.1 amp a couple of years ago, sent it back it was crap. They reckon it was faulty, but the menus where very dull and it was slow, and ruined the picture. :-/ never bothered replacing so went back to my trusty Sony 5.1. even though it had to have relays re soldered.

Oh, 50inch pioneer BTW. 8-)

There does appear to be a lack of decent films recently - I guess the film companies are holding back like the rest of industry.

Stuff I've watched in the last few months that have actually caught my attention (I tend to be on the computer, or reading, at same time)...

I was quite impressed with The Tourist (Jolie and Depp), though was predictable.  I started watching it whilst doing something else, but found myself getting drawn towards the film.

The remake of Unstoppable with Denzil Pemberthy and monkey nuts from Star Trek, typical American film, very predictable, but an enjoyable couple of hours with the character relationship between the 2 main characters. Based (loosely) on a true story as well.

Knowing was quite fascinating, although has a sci-fi element, although key to the film, isn't part of the film, if that makes sense.

District 9 was an interesting film, very sci-fi, but could have been not sci-fi (those who have seen it will understand exactly what I mean).

I know you've seen Avatar, though I thought the middle bit dragged (though I think mine is the extended version).

A-Team was much better than I thought - I wasn't going to bother with it, then we saw a cut-to-ribbons version on a plane, and it looked good, so when it came out, we got it, and I really enjoyed it.

Star Trek was enthralling as well - as a franchise, its now full of holes, but a great film none the less.

The Kings Speech, despite being a chick-flick, was a worthwhile watch.

BTW, Ironman works for me - good enough film on its own, but she does scrub up nicely ::)

spidey 2's probably the best of the 3...3 was the worst, but still OK

X-men and X2 were decent, Last Stand i cant remember much....Wolverine was enjoyable but they ruined Deadpool and the claws looked cartoony  :(

its what i'd class as a BDM - Big Dumb Movie - but the sound was amazing, the film itself was OK - loved the Black Beautys ('65 Imperial Crowns) but they're not FWD as Kato says....when one of them is chopped in half by the lift ;D

I'm usually a fan of BDMs as much as the next man (Avatar, The Matrix, etc etc) but for some reason recently they just don't grab me (Green Hornet, Sucker Punch)..

I know, I think there's something wrong with me, too ;D

Tv is an old Toshiba CRT so never botherd with blue ray yet  :-/

Sound is definately better - I'm running Castle speakers with an old ES range Sony receiver.

HOWEVER BluRay on SD CRT doesn't work very well, I tried it, had to run compishite rather than RGB. Had to run movie mode which was dark. As non RGB inputs had artificial sharpening which I couldn't be bothered to strip the TV apart to fixremove except on movie mode.

Try a few 1080P TVs and see what works for you
