Some bloke blew himself up in his Nissan Micra at 3am this morning on Hartlepool Headland! :o
Talk is, the explosive was a chemical homemade mix & Police have also cordoned off the local Marina where he apparently lived in a flat above a restaurant bar as there are fears there may be more stockpiled there. There are all sorts of rumours flying about that the guy has set booby traps at various sites in the Town and myself & swmbo had to collect our Granddaughter from the Headland school where we had dropped her off a few hours previously as it was being evacuated. I don't know the reasons behind this incident, but it is very sad that a man has found himself with no other way to appease his demons than to take his life in such a way. I sincerely hope the rumour & rhetoric is just that, & nothing else :-/
My main thoughts are with the Police Officers & Paramedics 1st on the scene who have been exposed to the chemicals & are now quarantined in hospital! They & their families will be in for a worrying few hours methinks! :(

I must admit to being a little relieved that it was a suicide, sad though that might me :( The reaction from the emergency services, including using Police from Co Durham had us worried, in the Barber Shop, that it may have been a terrorist bomb; There had been little news at that point in time, as we discussed how we do get a little complacent up here and don't expect such problems... :)
