Title: Monaco GP
Post by: Banjax on 27 May 2011, 22:20:36
Button 14/1 :o :o :P
Massa 40/1  :o :o :P

OK you need a good car so that discounts everyone bar McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull.

You need a driver that can balls it out lap after lap under pressure...so that discounts Vettel.

Webber's not good enough, the car is but I can't see him winning.

Massa? Nah

So who's left...Button......Hamilton.....Alonso.....there's your top three pick one from them - my moneys on Alonso at a miserly 9/2  :-X :y

Of course, each and anyone of them could stuff it in the armco at turn 1 and a Lotus could win it  ;D ;D

If Button is kind to his tyres he could be the man to beat

Monaco is a strange race as its shite for overtaking action but normally quite exciting all the same

sorry as much as i would like jenson to win he hasnt got it.good driver yes, smooth yes,but he hasnt got that last 3% that hamilton has and schumacker used to have.
but at monaco they wont be able to open there wings for long and i dont think they will get to use the kers much and there are few places to overtake.so a good grid place is needed and vettal seams to be the man to do that.

Location is fantastic fair enough, but if ever there was a circuit totally unsuitable for modern F1 racing it has to be this one. Something of a joke IMO.

I am not a fan of Vettel but you can't level that accusation at him. He held off Hamilton at the last race. All you need to do is quali well and then make your car big. Vettel seems good at both.

Much overated race that is time expired in terms of overtaking etc. I am hoping that Hamilton or Alonso do well. We need some damp races to allow talent further down the field to shine.

Massa Webber Button all competent enough number two drivers.

Vettels a great driver, I just think he can get pressured into making small mistakes - fine everywhere else, not here tho - Alonso and Hamilton are the two best drivers in F1 currently  :o

Bit of an anti climax to Q3 of Qualifying with the red flag, I'm glad Perez is conscious and talking though. :y :)

Was hoping one of the McLarens would take the top spot off Vettel, but him and his Red Bull always seem to find an extra something on a Saturday.  I hope Button has the faster race pace tomorrow and can get past Vettel.

Hamilton was unlucky with Massa blocking and the session interruption, should be interesting to see how he does tomorrow.  Schumacher did pretty well, out qualified Rosberg and split the Ferrari's.

Doubt Perez will race tomorrow, will probably take pre-caution against his further head injury, also reports of a leg injury perhaps.  Button was the last driver to hit that barrier in qualifying in 2003, he didn't make it for the race.

yeh, lets hope button can get up there.
as for schumi, yes it wasnt a bad qually, do seem to think he could have done better though.

what a complete farce that race was. changing tyres on the red flag scuppered buttons chances.

actually i had money on Alonso and he was looking good for the win - Vettels tyres were about to go -til the red flag - i didnt know they were allowed to change tyres as red flag procedure normally brings cars into the pits behind the SC, where you can change them presumably Monaco is different, but then you shouldn't be allowed to change tyres on the grid if you ask me.....unless by doing so, it helps the guy i have a bet on  ;D

Vettel wins, but I still don't rate him round Monaco - he got very lucky - his race was lost 'til it was suspended and restarted  :(

Button was unlucky too but he started 2nd and finished 3rd, Alonso started 4th and finished 2nd, and would heve won if you werent allowed to change tyres under red flag - i agree it shouldnt be allowed - its giving everyone a free pit stop and penalising those who've planned a better strategy (like Alonso) :(

I thought the end of that was really disappointing too :(

Lots of action on track (and lots of di Restapeople driving into people) and mistakes in the pit lane.. I really thought Button might do it right up until the first safety car that made the rest of the race a tall order, and of course the red flag which put the final nail in the coffin. Boo.

If the race hadnt been stopped Vettell may well have still won.
All he had to do was make his car a bit too wide at certain corners for the last few laps - istr Senna doing it to Mansell for most of the second half of the race, years ago. ;)

" I have been called before the stewards 5 times in the last 6 races Is It Because I'm BLACK?"
 :( :( :( :(
Oh dear he makes the mistakes, and then uses the race card.

As for the race I enjoyed it, probably one of the best Monaco Grand Prix in recent years. Why are they allowed to change tyres after a red flag, it is that which made the last ten laps gripping to watch. The change to Pirelli, and  make the races more of a spectacle, and then they are allowed to change them with 6 laps to go, they should have been made to finish the race on the tyres they were on, and then the result would have been totally different. Button, Alonso, & Vettel.

I don't know Alonso's tyres were a lot older than Buttons so who knows, but yes either way Vettel would not have won. To be honest I really don't know why they restarted the race, with the tyre change it was a forgone conclusion

Yes.  Red flags spoiled potentially exciting qualifying and the race.  Just stopping would have put some life back into Vettel's tyres by letting them cool.

I reckon Alonso and Button would have passed him although it's not guaranteed.

I also think Button let Alonso have a go at Vettel on the restart.  That way there was some possibility they would have taken each other out - the easier way to win at Monaco!

As for Hamilton.... well we're supposed to have more overtaking and he does overtake,  only to be hauled before the stewards.  I know someone else had already been given a drive-through for a similar thing but they were a lot more ambitious and did it nearly entirely off the track.

A good race spoiled in my view.  I just hope FIFA weren't involved! ;)

Hamilton drove stupidly today. He got frustrated and kept driving into gaps which werent there. He probably deserved the punishment he got and if he did say "is it because I is black ?"  then he has lost a lot of the respect I had for him, which was quite a lot.

Hamilton angry after 'weekend to forget'
Lewis Hamilton launched a furious attack on stewards after being called in front of them following an incident-packed race to sixth place in Monaco.

The McLaren driver got a drive-through penalty for a brush with Felipe Massa, and also clashed with Pastor Maldonado.

"It's an absolute frickin' joke," he said. "I've been to see the stewards five times out of six this season."

Asked why that was the case, he said apparently in jest: "Maybe it's because I'm black. That's what Ali G says."
