I was on that very beach having some alcoholic refreshments only a few months ago. I've got pics I'll get them up later

That particular 747 was slightly low on landing, but all the same, they do come in very low at the best of times.

Take-Off is interesting for those on the beach, 100% thrust from the 4 engines is enough to overturn a bus!  ;D

Well here are the pictures. I have had to just put the link in as I deleted the resizing and conversion software from my computer, so the pictures are very big (size wise and mb wise)

One is a timetable on the blackboard of flights due in. I must say the jumbo in the picture is alot lower than any I saw!

p.s when the big silver AA plane came down to land he tipped his wings for the benefit of the people on the beach. I made a rather hasty retreat at that point! I'm not a pilot obviously but it was too low and close for my liking! :-/

great pics  :y  i imagine a 747 needs all the runway there as opposed to making do with half of it for the lighter aircraft - hence the fence skimming white knuckle landings for jumbos  ;D

Yeah you're not kidding! Did you notice i took all those photos out of the flight path!!!!

I didn't fancy being sandblasted either so went nowhere near the fence when any took off! And i couldn't get sand in my beer could I!!!???

It's an interesting approach for sure .. the Tower usually (?) caution you to be aware of folks on the beach  ......  luckily the C130 can make a slightly higher approach and avoid the problems..... however the on-board kit will be bleating at you for being high on the glide slope. The 747 guys simply follow the instruments ..... looks a lot worse than it is ... but in the event of an "overshoot" (missed approach at decision height) then the folks on the beach run the risk of a quick sandblasting session !!!!

Woulda bigger aircraft need to get on the deck quicker to stop? I'm assuming runway space is limited, looking at the video...?

Someone needs to be reminded of the 500 foot rule, methinks:

Quote
(b)The 500 feet rule

Except with the written permission of the CAA, an aircraft shall not be flown closer than 500 feet to any person, vessel, vehicle or structure.

Indeed so - it was such reckless disregard that lost them the Malvinas.

In my view they should stick to producing tinned beef, leather goods and astoundingly beautiful women. :y

Yes. If you can't take us out from 500 feet, do the decent thing, chaps, and surrender. ;D
