Title: Interesting cider observation
Post by: Martin_1962 on 06 June 2011, 21:12:00
Our local Tesco has about 15 slots, most are full of foreign or mass produced garbage.

Only 2 are decent quality like Westons ect.

Asda in Corwall, 18 slots and over half are decent and local ciders.

Just drinking a Rattler at the moment :y :y

As you're the resident expert is Crumpton Oaks anyone? I bought 10 litres as it was cheap. It did the job, not too sure on the taste though. I prefer dry cider

My observation is that drinking copious quantities of cider causes folk to talk 'dangle berries'. :D

My favourite at mo is Waitrose's own vintage cider - intensely apple-y, and despite high ABV it isn't at all treacly in the way that very strong lagers are. Really lovely when chilled.
They do several different types - there's a hugely strong one at 8%, my personal favourite at 7.3%, and a 'cooking' one at around 5%.
Check 'em out if you've a Waitrose near you.... :)

I love cider, but unfortunately my knowledge only extends to the main brands like Magners, Strongbow, Woodpecker, Scrumpy Jack etc etc. Did try a few from Asda mind, and they were all delicious  :)
