What do you call the bottom part of a window frame on the outside? :-[ I need to replace a rotten part and searched under sill or cill but that seems to come up with inside and looking for outside... ::) ::)
Or, do I just purchase a length hardwood and shape to fit?

It is a window cill and you can buy this from most good timber merchants in either soft or hardwood.If it is well rotten along a substantial part of its length then you will need to replace the whole length.Remember this is part of the frame so you will need a very sharp chisel especially if its hardwood.And chop the old rotten one off.You may need to ask the timber merchant to 'cut down' the cill on his circular saw (if he has one) as the sections you can buy may be too deep for what you want or you can cut it down yourself if you are confident enough with a power saw.Then you fix the new section with glue (no nails) and screws.Pre drill some holes through the new cill section at about 300mm or so and screw through those into the old sub frame,which hopefully will still have some 'guts' left in it.

Don`t forget to add a 'sill drip' groove beneath. :y

Thanks, that's the sort of thing I wanted to hear, this one is only slightly more complicated as it is a corner but I can cut timber at a 45 degree angle.... :y :y

Buy it from the merchants and it'll already have a drip so its just a case of getting the section cut down to the width you want.
