Title: F1 Irony - spoiler !
Post by: albitz on 12 June 2011, 18:51:47
The race at the circuit Gilles Villenueve has been temporarily stopped due to rain. Gilles must be turning in his grave ,up the road in St. Berthier.  ::)

The problem is, when the teams know that a splash of rain will bring out the safety car, why do they need to produce a car that can possibly run in the rain?

It matters not that these are supposedly the worlds best drivers in the worlds most developed car.

Although, from what I've seen, it is really wet there!

Villenueve used to say "even if it snows, we should still race. If the cars will move then we can drive at some speed and race each other. If the spectators pay good money and stand and watch in poor weather, we have a responsibility to give them a good show". How things have changed. ::)
He didnt seem to understand that its normal to drive slower when it rains. I can remember one wet session when he was 12 seconds per lap quicker than the next quickest driver. ;)

It is ridiculously wet. There a service vehicle trying to clear puddles, it's shifting a hell of a lot of water.

I believe Indy cars don't run in the wet at all. They don't even have inters, never mind full wets.

yeah but theyre Americans.they just dont race in the wet ,end of. Cant understand it myself. A long running tradition I suppose. :-/
F1 drivers are supposed to be the best drivers on the planet - most of them need to man up imo. ;)

These cars must be drivable in any weather. Even if it means driving like a min metro.

I would bet a pound, if you'd had a couple of weeks practice in an F1 car, you could drive it around that track.  If the car is truely that undrivable in wet weather, then the team(s) should be punished for not being able to run in it.

As Albs rightly points out, normal joe public have probably saved all year to see a specticle, and because F1 has turned into the poofters sport it has, they are going to be disappointed.

I understand that the gay poofters even started behind the SC when it wasn't raining.

Its a bloody disgrace, and its unsurprising that people are switching off from F1.

Albs and GV are correct.

They should race however wet it is. Health and safety is a pain in the arse.

Perhaps the armed forces should not be involved in a conflict where someone may get killed.......Or maybe the police should refuse to attend  where  a knife or gun  is involved.

Stirling Moss has said that F1 is far too safe these days. I agree. Nancy boys... :-/

Errr, they do ;D

Last time me brother had an armed robbery, the Police rang about 30mins later asking if it was now safe for them to turn up  >:(

I agree that they should race, but lets be fair the conditions today are rather exceptional. I  for one would not wish to see a fatal accident which could have been avoided. As a former member of BMRMC, and a qualified marshall let me tell you that rescuing a driver whether F1 or clubman rallying is not a nice thing to do.
The red flag delay means I can consume more STELLA 'cos SWMBO is asleep. :y

What about Hamilton, I predicted a win for him if the race was wet, but what is he  doing? I have watched the replays, and to be honest I tend to side with him. He is out to race BUT??? does he push it too far? Your thoughts please, because I really can't make up my mind, I go for 50% prick, and 50% great racer.

The first is a racing incident - I reckon Webber did not give enough space, so Hamilton was on kerb, so was always going to slip.

The other, I am convinced Button knew.

I'm not a Hamilton fan, but he has what so many others lack, a real desire.

Button didn't move over until Hamilton pulled out. But Button had every right to do so, as did Lewis to pass...or try. Racing incident. But I believe Button should have let him through as a team mate and clearly slower driver.

Picnic on the grid in the rain anyone? FFS.  ;D

How about running the race tomorrow?
Think about Wimbledon I seem to recall that we have had the finals on a Monday, and played catch up on the 1st Sunday in inclement weather.
Mind you the money men wouldn't like it I don't suppose

People have travelled significant distances to watch it, and probably can't make it tomorrow.

Its a bloody disgrace, and the Formula One Association should be refunding every ticket price and TV rights paid for this race.  That might help focus their minds, rather than believing this is a never ending cash cow

Just had god knows how many laps under the safety car, as it was too dangerous to let them loose. As soon as the safety car came in, everyone was in the pits for inters as the track isnt wet enough for wet tyres - rather disgraceful. >:(

Had the old ticker racing at the end.

Good driving by Jenson (apart from the collision with Hamilton).

That was a hell of a race for jenson, christ he was last after that safety car and his puncture from the tussle with Alonso(Ijust hope he doesn't get done for that)

Four hours, that's nothing.. I spent 20hrs in front of the telly for LeMans ;D (I caved at 5am and got 4hrs sleep, promptly missing Audi taking the lead..)

Good GP, though.

A great race and a great finish.

In fact, close to perfect, a Brit in first place and Scumacher in 4th so no podium! Great!

As for the 'incident', Hamilton was a little to hopeful there (he was still half a car length behind button), racing incident 'six of one and half a dozen of the other' as my gran used to say.

I think he knew he was there, and tried to squeeze him - Hamilton had room, but would have meant going on the grass.

I suspect McLaren feel similar, as they kept repeating that both drivers had agreed between themselves that it was a racing incident, which I think was more a message for the stewards than to anyone else...

much as i admire Lewis Hamiltons racing instincts, skill, aggression and bravery i think he does need to dial it back a touch - taking mad lunges in the first lap (webber) or nearly taking out button early on - and all you see is spray in the mirrors, so no, Jenson couldn't possibily see Lewis......and if you think he could that means that you also think Jenson deliberately pushed Lewis into the wall risking finishing both their chances??  :o

doubt it  :y
