Title: Halfords roll cab
Post by: feeutfo on 03 June 2011, 01:00:57
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_210501_langId_-1_categoryId_165667

Anyone see better value elsewhere?

Prefer this size but it's over £400

I'd check what it's like in real life first, some of those "bargains" are cheap in construction as well as price.

ISTR the red ones are pretty flimsy now (they were once well constructed, a friend has a bunch of them) - the black ones, however, are very well made. Good when they have an offer on, but expensive when they don't.

They're also 30% off now, but it was a better deal when it was 'buy the bottom one, get the top one free'

The Sealey "American Pro" Range is OK... Nothing to shout about though ;)

Unless it has changed dramatically in the last 10 years (since I bought mine) :-/ :-/

I bought it as a kit through Sealey and got loads of (average quality) tools which I supplemented with Snap-On/Mac/A N Other Brand as and when, paying on the drip :y :y

TG's favoured method of shopping. ;D
This weeks was Snap-on work boots, only £70.

The boots are ok but there's better value out there ;)

Almost everything I bought from the chap who came to us was when there was a deal on ;) He was very fair actually and used to tell us if we wanted something that was coming onto a deal soon :y

With Halfrods, isn't the red drawer stuff the really cheap stuff, black drawers are more durable, then the fully balck ones are their top notch?

I'm off to Costco at some point this weekend, GayBoy, I can see what they have?

Certainly have a look if you don't mind and have time. But needs to be no smaller than the Halfords one above, which means spending a bit of dosh.

Black is more expensive Halfords range, so presume more durable as mentioned, but then how durable does it need to be for home use? It will be by the garage door where I'm working(rather than at the back of the garage like the current one) so may not need to wheel it around. Certainly my current American pro doesn't move but that's because the wheels are crap.

You'll need to where safety shoes with those Db. Hence not economic. Not to mention TOO BLOODY SMALL FOR THE THIRD TIME.  ::) ;D

You can get big ones or buy more than one.  As for the safety shoes, never used on of these boxes so can't comment  ;D ;D ;D ;)

Aha, bad advice then!  >:(     ;D :D

Must say £400 is excessive, never mind the snap off stuff.

Needs must though.  :P

Was in Halfords today, there seems to be three levels.

The cheap red Halfords stuff really is very poor. Friction draw runners are a joke.

Then there's the red Halfords professional badged stuff. Roller draw runners, solidly built and well made it seems to me. I'd have no problem buying, except the one I was thinking of is not much bigger than the one I have. As suspected.

Then there's the Black heavy duty Halfords professional, similar construction but with a lift latch on the draws. Nice stuff. But again, not big enough.

:'( means I have to spend more than £125 to upgrade. No point else.  :-/

Clarke ones at Machine Mart (on a VAT free day?

Thing I paid £89 for the top half in my garage, no space for roller...

Hmmm, might be better off with shelves, next size up is £450 odd on mm web site.

Sealey one posted previous is cheaper with better draw combo. Seen it for £400 ish but still steep.  :-/
