It seems it is my photocards birthday. So DVLA tell me. :D
I need to send them £20, a new photo, my photocard and paper licence. ::)
I have heard tales of DVLA making adjustments to peoples entitlement to drive certain catagories. :-/
Is this true?
What can I do to protect myself folks?

Take a copy of or scan your current license before you send it off would be a good first step, so you can prove what you had originally. :y

Sound advice. Thanks Kevin :y :y

I had to pay the
robbing gits DVLA £20 also for my updated photocard, I had bugger all on it anyway apart from full motorbike license.
They could have asked me for a fresh photo when I passed the bike test, as I got sent a new card then. But nooo, had to wait a year, then pay out the £20 >:(

this is why ive kept my paper licence i knew there wouild be hidden costs in photo ids

There was a snippet on Watchdog (i think) a few years ago when a guy had a full motorcycle licence & other entitlements. When he moved house & sent off for a new photo licence, his motorcycle entitlement had been removed. DVLA said he'd have to take his test again as they have no records of it. Makes you wonder why we pay taxes ::) ::)

If you've had a new passport in the last 5 years, do it online and you can keep the old one until the new one arrives to compare ;) ;)

I was told a change of address would mean Icould hand over my paper licence and a photo and get a free one, or pay and just say the papper one was lost.
Are they doing away with the paper ones now?

It wasn't me on that particular programme, but it did happen to me. I applied and received my photocard version minus my bike entitlement. I sent them copies of my certs from when I took a dispatch riders course in the services, 1978 over 250cc but they would not take that on, stating, you must have the original pass certificate, the MOD driving/riding permit is not enough proof!!! I dropped it in the end but I mean what a bunch of absolute no hopers.

The DVLA managed to lose my HGV entitlement...apparently I needed to send in a D2 form as well...as they have it on record, what a waste of time and resources...this is what you had before...change pic...same as before but new pic...how hard can that possibly be?? Surely its for them to say what you have, not for you to tell them! Luckily though I got someone else to pay the £20 :y

Had mine done about a month ago at the local post office they charged a small fee but did the photo and made a copy of my old licence for me, Got my new one back in just over a week,

Same here, moved house in 2006.
After getting my licence back, all I had on it was class B >:(
No, A, C, C1, C1E, D, D1E etc etc.
They denied I ever had them and told me to "prove it".
I spoke to the MOD Air and explained it to them, they sent me a letter confirming all the licences I had gained through them, I attached a letter from my solicitor threatening legal action if they didn't reinstate ALL my entitlements....
Needless to say, less than 2 weeks later a new licence & card arrived with everything on it! :y
Stick that up your tail pipe and blow it ;D ;D ;D
