some search engine:
A web forum crawler which can collect the forum data automatically according to scheduled running time such as once a week. The collected data will be stored in the database. The data can be used for data mining or social network analysis.

basically it reads the forum so that when you search for things such as google the information comes up.
Hope that explains for the not technically minded :y
