My bank recommended downloading and installing this as i use online banking.
I think your suppose to set it to monitor any sites you use debit/credit cards on......like paypal/etc
Does it add another level of protection against fraud?
-
IMO it's just another program taking up resources and annoying you everytime you want to pay for something.
Just be careful which sites you use personal data on, especially your bank details. There is no need for anything other than common sense. And remember, your card issuer will more than likely give you adequate protection against fraud.

I disagree Broomie, I would recommend installing it, I have it and have noticed no difference in performance.
It is preset to monitor banking sites and places such as amazon.
Yes a lot has to do with common sense but all it takes is a mistype/click and you could end up on a dodgy site
-
personally, I would far rather trust open source software than anything proprietary.
for the simple reason that if say, Mozilla release a new version with a security flaw, about a 1000 people will notice it, then another 1000 people will fix it, then another 1000 people will test it,
all within about 10 minutes.

:y Differing opinions are always a good thing, else life would be boring!
My bank too advised me to use it (Lloyds TSB).
I dont even have anti-virus/spyware/malware software on my computer.
Without blowing ones own trumpet, I've never had a Virus/Spyware/Malware. I use my card on a select few sites, ideally use PayPal for everything.
Not really relevant, but I've been 'online' since the invention of the 14.4k modem. I remember when 56k was amazing and everyone went and bought a 56k modem because they would achieve supersonic internet speeds. Now we are looking at 56Mb. ;D

Working in the banking industry I get into the habit of recommending it,
but if you have no anti virus how do you know that you don't have one ;) :D
I too have been using PCs for a good number of years and still would say if you don't know what you are doing put it on just incase ;)

Touché
I know because since Virus' began (a simple batch file which would overwrite the Master Boot Record (as an example)) a virus would often do damage..... or it wouldnt be a virus lol.
Spyware or Malware is different again, it will hunt out what you are viewing, what you are doing and give content which will make someone rich. I use FireFox with ABP and a good knowledge of the net...... I need no further software to keep me safe. :y
-
Yes, It is.
-
I use it too and noticed no difference on my antique laptop at all! :y
-
I too use it and have noticed no change in performance on my machine...

Thanks for the replies...
So far i conclude it doesnt show any noticeable performance issues......but
Is it any good? has anyone ever got a message from it warning about a possible security compromise?? that was accurate?
-
Its a 'peace of mind' utility
The main benefits are
1. Ensure you are connected to the real bank, not a phantom site via a phising attack
2. prevent a screen scraper grabing data from the browser while you are logged on to the bank.
Both of these benfits are only realised if you have actually fallen foul of a Phising scam or have sucummed to malware with screen scraping.
Its a bit like a tetnus jab, its there to protect you wether you have stepped on a rusty nail or not, you are secure in the knowledge that you are protected.
I've had it installed since 2009 when Natwest offered it, and use it with all my financial sites.

working for a bank the answer is yes to all your questions :y

Well I installed it yesterday, and then promptly broke it, so its not very bomb proof ;D
It suggested i update google chrome, as i didnt have the latest version, so i did. That broke Rapport ::)
Re-installed Rapport and its fixed again.....so i see how it goes...if its going to break every time i update chrome...i dont think i'll bother with it. :-/

Dunno mate but the Kenco coffee's pretty good! :y
-
Definitely recommended Dave - our business uses Rapport and I use it at home. It protects all online and banking transactions. :y
