That happened to my Dad years ago.
Luckily he was in a Polski Fiat so was going slowly enough to stop safely. ;D ;D

I can only imagine how it must feel to have the wheel come off in one`s hand.......but, I have experienced the 'opposite'; the steering lock coming-on whilst driving a Series Landy :o .......the brake pedal had never been pressed so hard previously! ;D

A mate of mine did that in a CF Bedford I was passenger in.  Turned the ignition off to let it coast and it went "click"!  It's like cadence braking, your brain doesn't want to turn the wheel "the wrong way" to get it unlocked.

Dragsters don't need too much steering thankfully. ;D

Umm. I think they added a little too much "lightness" to that. ::)
