Apparently stolen without keys, to steal an M6 without keys takes some doing  :o :o Means it's got a smart key a push button start, tilt sensors on thee alarm etc, must be stolen to order I would've thought  >:( >:(

It was, but unluckily for the owner his subscription had expired, so I would've thought this would make his insurance invalid.

Del,
Bit of a long shot but has he got BMW Assist on it, as if he has they could possibly trace it? They always know where my beemer is for the Google searches / assistance / SOS  etc. (registered by chassis number).
As you know, it's not a recognised tracker but would still do the job.  :y
Just a thought.  :-/

Alan,

Cheers for that mate, have just asked him, will let you know what he says, something I wanted to ask you was, my 7 series has BMW online but the subscription has run out, how much does a new subscription cost?

It's free for the first three years and then it's £120 annually for bmw connecteddrive. As I replace mine yearly I've never had to pay for it seperately. It would come in handy at a time like this because you could phone up assist and use the ' I can't remember where I parked' function and they would tell you.  :y

EDIT: BMW can trigger the tracker as part of bmw connecteddrive, (see note below).

The link below is for registration:

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/connecteddrive/0,,___,00.html?siteID=1312

Extract from their online page:

BMW ConnectedDrive - The valuable connection in case of theft.
With its integrated module and dedicated services, BMW Tracking keeps you connected to your vehicle should it become stolen. This service informs you when the alarm is activated and connects you with the BMW Tracking Call Centre staff for assistance. In the event of a theft, the tracking module can be activated. It then sends a GSM signal - only with your consent - so that the vehicle can be located and recovered

I wouldn't be at all suprised if it wasn't already in a container headed for eastern europe/asia, far too risky to keep it here with all the cameras around  >:(

First thing they'll do is chuck it in a shipping container somewhere (no GPS or mobile signals) and wait for the trail to go cold.

Well I genuinely thought these were unstealable, apart from lifting them onto a flatback, must take more than a scaffold tube and a screwdriver I bet :o

sorry to the guy who lost the vehicle. But i wouldnt be surprised if a whole new key was fully programmed and made (mobile) just from gaining the VIN number.

I an ideal world.  But would there be BMWs in an ideal world? ;D  It would all be Omegas of course.

As it happens, when someone steals a BMW bumper (to take your example) BMW parts department are likely to make a sale, just not to the right person.  In this day and age of "money counts over everything else" there is little incentive for them to spend time and resources on making them less nickable.

A guy I know had his Porsche stolen over a wall in a 'secure' parking area. When the Police watched the CCTV they saw the thieves using a HIAB lorry and slings around the wheels. If they can steal a car over a six foot wall what chance have you got.  :-/

Sadly as already said it's probably in a shipping container & hi ab car theft is rife. One of the banger tracks i raced at years ago got busted. They took away an XJ Jag that was barely a year old!!!! :o
